Grindelwald is postcard-perfect, a charming example of a Swiss ski resort. There are slopes for all experience levels, plus plenty of snowy activities for those who don’t ski, such as sledding, hiking or snowshoeing. Not feeling particularly active? Just cozy up by crackling fire and enjoy the merry atmosphere. After a long day, nothing’s better than lingering over a pot of Swiss fondue and a glass of crisp wine as you plan the next day’s adventures.

The wide, well maintained panorama trail from Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg with a gentle descent most of the way. Only the part by the Tschuggen flank has a guard rail. We walked early October and the trail had only a section (mainly in the shade) that was icy and tricky to manoeuvre as it was one of the few uphill sections. The views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau are simple breathtaking.

He painted the Jungfrau and the Schynige Platte, but Ferdinand Hodler never committed Lake Bachalpsee to canvas. The glacial water reflecting the Schreckhorn in the calm air would have been entirely in keeping with the taste of the well-known symbolist. Many others discovered the beauty of the "blue jewel". Lake Bachalpsee travels around the world as a postcard. However: no photo are able capture the radiance of the lake. You need to go there and see it for yourself. That doesn't require much effort. Lake Bachalpsee can be reached from First on foot in less than an hour.
Bachalpsee is an extremely scenic lake and can be reached by an easy hike from First. Definitely worth visiting.

Experience a day full of adventures on the Pfingstegg, the one and only family destination above Grindelwald. Hiking enthusiasts can hike up the mountain using one of our hiking paths and epicures enjoy a ride up with our gondola and a spectacular view over the glacier valley. At the top you will find several attractions for fun, to slow down and for curiosity: the toboggan, the brand-new fly-line and our fabled treasure hunt. And for a unique dinner, make a reservation for one of our gondola dinners.
2 8yr olds loved the short cable car ride up to the toboggan run which is on a loop so you can go on as many times before you come down. 8 yr olds were allowed on the run alone. We went on with ours first to get an idea of the speed, rules and general feel of the run as suggested by the staff. 1 was confident to go on a couple of runs by himself and loved it. Free small bouncy castle zip wire and playground for younger ones plus the cafe were good ideas. To save money we only paid for the cable car up the mountain and walked down which took about 90 mins with the kids. Whilst some parts of the descent were a bit hazardous both children managed it with little or no assistance. Definitely recommended...both parents also lives the toboggan!

The key element of the First Aerial Cableway is the cableway with six-seater gondolas travelling from Grindelwald up to First via Bort and Schreckfeld. The gondola cableway has a capacity of up to 1,200 persons per hour with a travelling time of approximately 25 minutes. Aside from the gondola cableway, Firstbahn AG also has three chairlifts and two ski lifts.
A great day up the mountain , lots to do for family’s, wonderful views , loved the Gondola rides, did the zip line and the Cliff side walk , felt safe on the bridge as we walked around , great little restaurant at the end of the cliff walk , great mountain views.

Faulhorn is one of the mountain peaks located in the region near Grindelwald, in Switzerland. I did a wonderful trekking between First and Faulhorn Mountain after to catch a cablecar between Grindelwald (town) and First. In the trekking, you can see a few lakes like Bachalpsee Lake and wonderful views of the mountains and surroundings. Really, it is a great excursion, which finish on Faulhorn Peak, from where you will see fantastic views of the other peaks. Do it! If you’re ready to stretch your legs after a long time on the cog train, alpiglen is a great stop. You can get drinks and light snacks near the train station while enjoying the view of The Eiger from its base.

Stayed here for four days in September, spent a day catching the cable car to First via Bort and Schrekfeld. The cliff walk was fantastic, amazing views over the mountains and valleys, really peaceful. Restaurants we very good. Zip wire from First to Schrekfeld was brilliant then three wheeled go cart down to Bort was great, finally the scooter down to Grindelwald was excellent.

Grindelwald provides an excellent base location for mountaineering activities both summer and winter. It is itself also a very pretty and lively Swiss little town with many hotels, restaurants and shops. You can take from here the train to the Kleine Scheidegg mountain and from there to the famous Jungfraujoch - the highest altitude railway station in Europe.
