FireFly Farms

If you are near Accident (on purpose or on accident- hahahahaha!), stop by Firefly Farms to get yourself the most delicious cheese! We had previously had the Merry Goat Round at a winery and loved it. We were looking forward stopping in their market. They had many choices of cheeses, wine, bread/crackers, meats. You could easily shop for a great charcuterie platter there! The staff was very helpful in recommendations. We've already dipped into the wood-strapped Merry Goat Round (aged 90 days to sweet, soft perfection, almost like a brie) and look forward to enjoying our others. They also had other local merchants' goods, i.e. honey, spreads. We were happy to hear they now have a store in Whitehall Market in Baltimore and look forward to checking that out!

New Germany State Park

Five miles from Grantsville, this park is popular with bikers and hikers.

Reviewed By citysuburb - Washington DC, United States

We stayed in a pet-friendly cabin over Thanksgiving (not all are pet friendly). Two teenagers, two parents and a dog. Absolutely lovely. We've stayed at this state park several times and have always had a wonderful time. The cabin had a double bed downstairs and a loft with two twin beds. You must bring your own everything (they give you a pack of matches at check-in). The beds do have have pillows, but no sheets or blankets. Other than that: bring it (spices, oil, soap, towels, bath mat, sponge, coffee / filters). The dishes / pans / utensils (large and small) are all in great shape, as is stove, microwave, toaster, coffeepot, tea kettle, smallish cutting board. Our cabin had a cork screw but no can opener: if you know you'll want it, bring it. Park also supplies endless firewood to cabins - wonderful! And, they put down de-icer on our steps - so nice. We went on long hikes each morning and afternoon from the cabin and didn't have to get in our car for five days = heaven! We didn't have snow, but you can rent full cross country gear at the park's lake house for $25 a day (or $15 for 2 hours). The lake house also has wifi if you're desperate; otherwise, we had zero service at our cabin. We stopped for provisions at the big Walmart in La Vale (just west of Cumberland) on way to cabin - about 30 minutes from New Germany. We also brought a radio (we saw two cabins with TV / satellite dish set ups: way beyond our needs and capacity :)). We also brought two sports chairs - just to give us an easy-to-stow seating option besides dining room chairs, bed and one comfy lounge chair. A big thank-you to all the New Germany staff: you keep an amazing park amazing!

A great spot for water skiing, boating, hiking and swimming.

It was 10 of us decided to discover the Deep Creek State Park while appreciating falls foliage. The route driving inside the park with tree and foliages on both sides, we couldn’t help but to stop in the middle of the route for some photo shoots. A place to remember. Definitely will consider to visit this state park again.

Circle R Ranch

Reviewed By lidskidsliddia - Terra Alta, United States

I took my grandkids ages 10 and 11, here again. They loved it. The staff took their time and introduced them to the horses they were going to ride. They told the kids the horses names and a little about each one. After the kids were on the horses, they talked a bit with them and made them really comfortable. Our guide, Coley, was very good. She kept an eye on the kids as they rode and talked to them. I highly recommend this ranch to anyone wanting to ride horses and be treated very nice. We will be going there again. The horses seemed very well taken care of and were very easy to ride.

Herrington Manor State Park

Reviewed By LOwen1949

We bring our grandkids to Harrington Manor every year. The park is well maintained by the state. Youngest enjoy the small sand beach. Older kids like to canoe and fish for pike in the lake. Lake is shallow so not much for serious fishing but kids enjoy it. We’ve rented a cabin a couple times. They’re a bit rustic but they’re great alternative to tent camping with kids. Close to Swallow Falls, rafting on the Youghioheny River and all of the Deep Creek Lake activities. Great trails for hiking and cross country skiing in winter. Equipment rentals are available and inexpensive.
