We began selling chilli pepper plants in 2001. The plants, and later pickles and sauces, gained very favorable attention and in 2007 we purchased Cherwood Nursery in Chawston which we renovated. Known for its 'Pick Your Own' chilli tunnel which is open to the public, the nursery has become the destination of choice for European hot pepper enthusiasts. In addition to fresh retail and wholesale chillies we also produce a selection of gourmet sauces, spice rubs, dried, smoked, frozen, and pickled chillies processed onsite in a 5 'Stars On The Doors' production kitchen. We also 'grow-to-order' for many other European hot sauce producers, restaurants, farm shops, delicatessens, and distinguished retailers such as Harrods and Fortnum and Mason. We host tours and workshops. Our chilli sauces are available from the nursery and local Waitrose stores. Edible Ornamentals has featured in the national daily press, The Economist and leading national trade publications The Grocer and Fresh Produce Journal. Joanna featured as a chilli expert on BBC's 3 Counties Radio, Radio 2's 'Chris Evans Show', and Radio 4's 'You and Yours' and has appeared in many TV programmes including Ready Steady Cook, Economy Gastronomy, Market Kitchen, Countrywise, Gordon Ramsay's 'Ultimate Cookery Course', 'The Hairy Bikers' and ITV's 'Sunday Brunch'. Heston Blumenthol visited and filmed an episode of his Channel 4 series "Great British Food" which featured Shawn and Heston eating a Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, hottest chilli in the world at that time. Edible Ornamentals won an extremely prestigious "Grower Of The Year Award" at the annual Horticultural Weekly sponsored event in 2011. That same year we were crowned "Best Chilli Grower UK" at the Fiery Foods Festival in Brighton. We were also named 'Local Food Hero' for East Anglia by the Good Food Channel's Market Kitchen and in 2015 awarded an extremely prestigious TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence.
A really informative tour from our superb guide, plus a great tasting session. A new chilli connoisseur is born!

Located on St. Peter’s Street, in the heart of Bedford, we are the exciting new performing arts facility for Bedford School and the town. St. Luke’s Church has been sympathetically adapted into a venue that houses a 280-seat theatre, a 60-seat studio-theatre, a spacious bar opening onto the original church garden.
First time in this theatre ànd love it. We were watching Hansel and Gretel, I wanted to book in the stall but was fully booked so just take the chance to book at the circle at the very top as it was the only seat left. It was fine, you can see everything. The bar area is lovely and new and clean too. Their was an opportunity to take photo with the cast after the performance. The production was brilliant. We really enjoyed our visit here and will visit again as we like going to the theatre. I recommend this place.

Ampthill Brewhouse was saved in 2015 and now brews three very 'gluggable' ales for local pubs, clubs and consumers in Ampthill and surrounding areas. We've got a great story and even better ales so come and try them and find out more about us on a tour of our microbrewery.

Woburn Abbey and Gardens are currently undergoing a major refurbishment programme and will reopen to visitors in Spring 2022. Woburn Abbey has been the home of the Earls and Dukes of Bedford for nearly 400 years and is now home to the 15th Duke and his family. Alongside the world class collection of art, the house contains the fascinating stories of the people who have shaped the history of both the Abbey and the nation; including the ‘creation ‘ of Afternoon Tea. The Gardens, with a twenty year restoration programme, are of equal splendour with 28 acres of Repton designs to be explored and discovered.
We were honoured to be invited to Shaan Sahonta and Daniel Wood's Wedding in the Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey. The Sculpture Gallery is magnificent, an ideal setting for Shaan and Daniel's Wedding, and set in the wonderful sprawling grounds of Woburn Abbey gives it an ethereal feeling. Words are not enough you need to visit Woburn Abbey, its grounds and the Sculpture Gallery for yourself - and soon!

The views and walks here are simply breathtaking .. we only live 15 minutes away and have driven past many times so we thought we would finally take a look!! We have visited many national trust properties recently as we are members and we both agreed this one is up there with the best .. the grounds are amazingly clean and social distance measures are very easily adhered to! It’s not the biggest but who cares !! We would love to look inside when the day finally comes ! Staff were also very pleasant although the tea shop is a little tiny but again it doesn’t matter .. thank you Ascott house for a lovely day out x

The Swiss Garden is a late Regency, nine acre garden, which is adjacent to the Shuttleworth Collection. The garden was created by the third Lord Ongley between 1820 and 1835, and is laid out in the romantic and Swiss picturesque style. It is the only complete example of this period and is open to the public all year round. The Swiss Garden has 13 listed structures including a Swiss Cottage, Indian Kiosk, and Grotto & Fernery and Victorian embellishments such as Pulhamite rockwork. It is licenced as a civil wedding venue, and outdoor events run throughout the year including the annua Mad Hatters tea party and open air theatre.
A lovely day out, made more exciting for the grandchildren because some of the vintage aircraft were flying! The gardens are pretty with interesting features that the adults and children all enjoyed. The play areas are well laid out with a variety of equipment, the children enjoyed exploring these. There was plenty of space and seating to have our picnic. The cafe was open for take-out only due to the government guidelines but the coffee was good! Henry provided directions and advice, thank you. I think it is good value for money at £15 per adult as there are no charges for children or parking.

Soar above a breathtaking landscape, sculpted over time, decorated by nature and enjoyed by generations.Stand on top of Dunstable Downs for a view that will simply take your breath away. These Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) are designated for the quality of their chalk grasslands. As well as two Scheduled Ancient Monuments (Five Knolls and Medieval Rabbit Warrens) there are many other historical features and the site has much to offer you.The chalk grasslands of the Downs have miles of footpaths and several circular walks, a fascinating history and an abundance of plants and wildlife.Dunstable Downs is within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the highest point in Bedfordshire. The wind-swept ridge provides ideal conditions for a variety of air sports, especially kite flying. On calmer days it's the ideal site to enjoy the view and a picnic. Please note: Chilterns Gateway Centre is owned by Central Bedfordshire Council and managed by the National Trust.
I took my 2 grandsons to the National Trust Summer of Sport during the summer holidays last week, and although it poured with rain, it was still a great day. It's such a beautiful relaxing area, and we plan to return next week, and hope the weather is better. We arrived at 11am and left at 4pm. The children played cricket and football, did some colouring and we ventured to Chute Woods to visit the adventure playground, which they loved, in fact I could hardly make them leave. We did the walk around the woods too and saw all the dens previous families had made. The NT are happy for you to make a den of your own or build on others, which is a great idea. Next week we plan to visit the tree cathedral and do the stone age walk, and play cricket/football again and try our hand at flying a kite. It was a free event, the staff were great especially the gentleman on reception, who couldn't be more helpful and we had lunch and afternoon tea in the cafe. The toilets were spotless, and I thoroughly recommend a visit, as even if you only visit the cafe the views are stunning. It looks as if in hot weather they open all the sliding glass doors in the cafe which must be lovely. There are some great historical photos on the back wall of the cafe too, which were really interesting. Am really looking forward to our return, and I am coming up all the way from Devon !!

Just off the A6, Wrest Park is a great place to stop off for an afternoon to take in the house and extensive gardens. The house has a few basic rooms set up with museum-style exhibits, plus a few impressive, if unfurnished, state rooms which are well worth exploring. However, the main draw here has to be the gardens which are well laid out across a large area with ornamental ponds, colourful parterre, a hidden sculpture gallery in the old dairy building, a grand orangery, the old bowling green house, an attractive pavilion and a nice 'Chinese' bridge among the highlights. There's some nice woodland to the far end of the property that's worth spending time in, as various statues and clearings can be found and we spotted muntjac deer out there too. A nice property that would be ideal for a warm summer's day but worked just as well on a bracing, but dry, winter's afternoon.
