Must visit this Goshala and temple. Serene, sacred and meditative. The goshala is maintained very well with over 400 cows. All sponsored by people like you and me. Those who want to protect our cows, maintain them in a Sathvic way from killing to breeding to treating their cows with love and respect. There is also a special place for cows that are rescued from slaughter houses. Must visit. Must help.

Kumbakonam is known as the city of temples and this temple is one of the main highlights of the temple town of Kumbakonam. A majestic Shiva temple situated in the heart of the city. The temple is huge and very well maintained. The highlight of our visit was the elephant blessing the devotees near the temple entrance. What an intelligent being! If a parent went with a child for the blessing, he blessed the child first. Happy to see such traditions still being maintained.

This temple is located at Thirunageshwaram very close to the Rahu Temple. The main deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu and called by various names. He is considered to be the elder brother of Lord Srinivasa of Tirumala. The deity is beautiful, huge and very very attractive. I was lucky to have his darshan on a Saturday when the Kumbabishekam of the deity was carried out. The prasadam of Curd Rice with fruits offered by the temple post the puja was amazingly unique taste. Don't miss this temple if you are on a Navagraha tour. The temple is just about 1 km from Rahu Temple. You get autos outside Navagraha temple to take you to this temple.

The entry of the temple is not clean and full of beggars who torture us. Have a good parking. Went at ragu kalam and had a full abishegam for kethu which was very satisfying. Roads are not good but manageable. Must visit Navagraha sthalam. Government should check the child begging and stop it immediately and take action on their parents. A 3 year old is not allowing our car to move.

We covered this temple as part of our trip to cover all Navagraha temples around Kumbakonam. This happens to be the first temple out of the 9 lot, to reach from Kumbakonam, which lies at a distance of around 15 kms. The entrance of the temple leads to Shiva temple (known as Kasi Viswanathar) where he resides in the form of lingam and the Sun God shrine is to the right from Shiva temple. One can offer prayers to Lord Sun for good health and eyesight, intelligence, skin ailments, offering lotus as offerings. Avoid the shops which invite you to leave footwear at their shop to induce you into buying from them. You can safely leave your footwear outside the temple. Car parking space is available at Rs 20 and convenient.

Gangaikondacholampuram is out in the countryside; there is just a small village. I arranged an AC car and driver in Kumbakonam. The drive took about 45 minutes one way (a little longer on the way back as we stopped for tea) and the charge was 1,250 rupees. And was that time and money well spent! The temple is magnificent, covered in fantastic statues and carvings both inside and out, with smaller shrines and a remarkable statue in the well maintained gardens. A true testament to the glory of the Chola dynasty. No entrance charge, but a small donation for taking care of shoes is expected.
