Walking is a way of life in the picturesque Cornwall town of Padstow. The South West Coast Path—which, at 630 miles, is Britain’s longest footpath—stretches along the coast and, via ferry, across the River Carmel. The former fishing port is today a hub of fine wining and dining. Lose yourself in the Lost Gardens of Heligan, a fairyland of heirloom flowers, or go back to the future at the Eden Project, a horticultural wonderland housed inside dramatic biodomes.

This little bay provided hours of entertainment and adrenaline-spiking fun, so much so that we had to go back. The star attraction is the "coasteering" area at the southern side of the bay where you can test your mettle to the max by jumping off the sides of the cliff into the deep channel below - I'm not too ashamed to admit that my 49 year old brain refused to launch me from the highest ledges when my 10 year leapt off without so much as second thought! They were to drag away from this particular source of entertainment, being encouraged to leave only by the rapidly receding tide and subsequent reduction in depth of landing zone water. There's a nearby sea cave that can be accessed at low tide for the explorer in you, and the beach itself provides lots of space to build castles, play beach sports or just sun yourself. Body boarding and swimming under the careful watch of the lifeguards adds more fun, and when you fancy a coffee, hot chocolate or bite to eat, there's an excellent van in the large car park.

Had an amazing day here today despite being really busy, parked in the park and ride at the top of the hill £5 all day and free bus down to Padstow - well worth it as the town car park is always full! Had fun crabbing on the harbour, had lovely fish and chips from Chips Ahoy and also went on the ferry over to Rock for the first time today (return tickets are £4 for adults and £2 for children ) - spent a couple of hours exploring the area and enjoying the views!

Loved this beach! It was perfect for us and the children. Not as busy as other bays and nice and clean. Would recommend a visit!
