We are open! All tours need to be pre-booked at least 3 days in advance. The Casual ward to the Guildford Union Workhouse was, and still is, known locally as The Spike. This is no ordinary visitor attraction but a unique visit to a time, place and a way of life for generations history often chose to forget. Prepare to be deeply moved as the tour guides escort you through an unforgettable Night at the Spike. 600 Casual wards were built in Britain, the Guildford Casual Ward is uniquely the only remaining with its working cells.
Six retired teachers from the Guildford area, most of whom had not visited The Spike before, were treated to a guided tour conducted by Dave and TJ. School teachers are not always the easiest people to impress with a talk but this group unanimously agreed that the two volunteers combined to tell an interesting story of the lives of the inmates who were 'allowed' to either sleep for the night on payment of a penny or to work for a whole day in lieu of payment. Neither vagrants nor casuals were able to return within a month and had to find their next accommodation in other nearby towns. This visit illustrated the hardship suffered by the unfortunates who lived in the years before the welfare state came into being. The video shown was good backup for the guides' comments but undoubtedly the highlight of the tour was visiting the actual cells where the inmates slept and worked. The charitable trust which runs this historic gem is continuing to improve the visitor experience with additional information about the history of the workhouse which also stood on this site and which before being demolished became part of St Luke's Hospital. Do visit, knowing that your entrance fee will help to preserve this small part of Guildford's disappearing history.

Under new management since October 2010, we are a commercial vineyard producing award winning English Sparkling wine. Greyfriars was originally planted in 1989 and has been producing great grapes and wines for over 20 years. We took over in late 2010 with the aim of expanding the vineyard dramatically, producing stunning English sparkling wine and building a state of the art winery, cellar and tasting room. We are well on the way to that goal. We have planted over 30 acres of new vines, predominantly the three classical Champagne grape varieties; Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. This will enable us to create a small range of spectacular English sparkling wines reflecting the unique local soil conditions, climate and heritage of the Surrey North Downs. The Downs in southern England are blessed with similar geological and soil conditions to the Champagne region in France. At Greyfriars we have a clay/loam topsoil over several hundred feet of wonderful free draining Cretaceous chalk. The chalk was originally deposited over a hundred million years ago when this entire area was submerged under a tropical sea. The highest part of the estate offers splendid views towards the South Downs and east towards Guildford and beyond. In September 2013 we released the first wine made entirely by our own fair hands, a delicious sparkling rose, the first release of many. By the end of the decade we will be producing 100,000 bottles a year.
Had a fantastic tour and wine tasting at Greyfriars in a beautiful vineyard setting. You can tell that the team is passionate about their wines and what they do. And the wines tasted were delicious. Highly recommended!

Wine Tasting for everyone! Fun, informal and informative Wine Tastings and Courses in Guildford and Surrey. Private (birthdays, hen nights etc) and business groups (client entertainment, team building etc).
Lovely to be back again. Jeremy has done extremely well to ensure everything is very safe. Masks worn all the time except when tasting, hand sanitiser present and the NHS Covid 19 QR scan when entering the tasting room. Social distancing well thought out so that singles or couples tables are nicely apart. The recent French cheese and wine tasting excellent as usual due to Jeremy's knowledge and presentation. A really fun evening enjoyed by everyone and we all left with more knowledge about the wines and cheeses tasted. Thank you Jeremy, I shall certainly be back for more wine knowledge presented in his unique humerous style. Bob.

Containment is a fun, challenging live escape game just outside Guildford, Surrey. Designed for groups of 4 - 6 people. With 3 rooms running you can pick the challenge that most appeals. We lock you up in a themed room, and give you exactly 60 minutes to get out. In order to beat the live escape game you and your team must solve cryptic puzzles, complete physical challenges and identify clues. Can you and your team work together to escape the rooms? Take on The Bomb, The Vault or The Lab!
Great fun, staff were really friendly before and whilst explaining the escape room to us. Actual escape room was great for all of us, it being our first time. Some puzzles were really challenging and it was a nice touch to add a few red herrings in there as well, just to throw you off the scent of the true answer to the puzzle. Look forward to inviting some more people next time and trying a different room.

Wheelie & stoppie school for all skill levels. Our team of professional stunt riders teach students how to wheelie & stoppie a motorcycle properly and safely. Theory, demonstrations & plenty of 1 on 1 tuition throughout the grin packed day. We use the 'superior' clutch technique & our wheelie quads and bikes are fitted with anti-flip devices for a huge safety and confidence advantage.
This was done a couple of weeks ago, just as the weather turned and all day we had torrential rain. You would have thought that this would have ruined the day. It DID NOT. It was a fantastic day. The instructors are excellent, they have a keen eye and spot your errors and help you correct them. They tell you by the end of the day you will be able to wheelie and they are right. The tried and tested system works. I can now wheelie :). You start on quads then a fazer and I then jumped on my own bike in the torrential rain to try to put all I learned into practice. I give the whole day a 10-10. I have nothing negative to say about the whole experience. Take my advice. Don't dream or think about doing it, book in and do it. You will not regret it. I am booking to go again with a different group of friends and do stand up wheelies now :) Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant and on top of all that you get to see a free stunt show by the instructors.

The centre provides 8 varied game zones including a giant pyramid, double-decker London buses, 2 story Castle Wallenberg and Haunted Graveyards. I booked this on a whim, and both my husband and I were so glad I did! Despite the weather and mud (caused by the weather!) we had a truly enjoyable afternoon, which gave us both back some of the lost joy of the Christmas season. The play starts outside and the audience moves around as the action goes from field to "inn" door back to field, then after about 20? minutes moves into the barn theatre, where the rest of the play takes place and where the audience sits on tiered wooden benches. The cast are amazing and incredibly professional, which is all the more to their credit when you know that very nearly all of them are local amateurs. The acting, costumes and singing were excellent and the use of numerous sheep, a donkey and three horses/ponies (all of whom behaved incredibly well), as well as an incredibly calm baby (at least, for the performance we saw!) just added to the magic. Use of lights, smoke and some pyrotechnics was very well done as well. Tips: arrive in plenty of time; we were in the coach park (because of the weather conditions) which was quite a distance from the performance itself, although we were given a ride in a farm buggy part of the way. The final section of the walk is quite steep uphill, although they did seem to have some transport on hand for those unable to make the ascent on foot. Make sure you have plenty of warm layers (although we were lucky and it was a warm December afternoon, I can imagine it can get very cold indeed), and think carefully about footwear, in particular - for this year's performances, due to the recent daily heavy rains, wellies were absolutely essential to avoid ruining other footwear such as walking shoes in the, at times, very thick mud, but if was frosty/icy you would probably be better with walking shoes. The website suggests bringing cushions for in the barn, but to be honest there wasn't really space to be getting them out and the benches weren't that uncomfortable anyway! If you go to an evening performance, I can imagine that a torch will be very handy for getting to and from the car park. This play is suitable for almost all ages except the very very young and anyone who is quite frail/elderly. We will almost certainly go again another year!
