Island full of beautiful beaches, popular with tourists.
Had a great time visiting Isla Coronado. A magical place where wildlife abounds and the water is crystal clear. My husband and I went with Francisco Mayoral who took us to see dolphins, dorado, frigate birds, the infamous boobies, sea lions, and a spectacular array of flora. I highly recommend this captain and this trip. It really made our stay in Loreto a special vacation.

This park works to preserve Loreto's desert ecosystem.
My husband and I recently visited Loreto, Mexico and it was a wonderful visit. We did some sight seeing on our own but also used the tour company of Wild Loreto for an all day tour to the Pacific to see the gray whales and their calves. It was awesome and our tour guide, Chalio, was wonderful. He knew when the whales were getting ready to come up and we had our cameras ready. We liked our tour to the see the whales with Chalio so much that we decided to take another tour to Coronado Island that is in the National Marine National Park in Loreto Bay in order to see more marine life! Marine life we saw in all its glory; we saw sea lions, all sorts of birds including the blue footed booby, dolphins, and had a beautiful hike on a clean and well marked trail that revealed millions of years of geologic activity. All stunning and Chalio was a wonderful guide. I hope Loreto Bay stays protected as the ecological wonder that it is.

Grey whales are known to make an appearance at this lagoon.
I traveled here with Baja Ecotours, taking a chartered bus with our group of 24 from San Diego to Ensenada, then a 2.5 hour private plane to the tiny airport next to San Ignacio Lagoon where we were picked up by the staff from Camp Cortez in a school bus. Camp Cortez has wooden cabins (rather than tents found in many other camps) for guests and is a certified sustainable/green camp. Birding is good, especially osprey, and the stars at night are also amazing. Each camp has assigned times (1.5 hours each) they can have boats in the whale watching area of the lagoon, and this is pretty strictly policed. We had two trips daily, with a break for lunch for 3 days. The shoreline is desolate and water must be trucked in. High winds are common, especially at night and in the morning. Not a tropical location! I took shorts, but never wore them, and a good slicker for the boats is a must. Amazing whale encounters; lots of spyhopping, breaching, and some mating activity observed, and whales came right up to the boat for thrilling chances to see them up close and even touch the whales. We returned to San Diego the same way we arrived. A few people in our group flew to Loreto and drove from there, but it is a long drive, and pretty much you need a 4WD vehicle. The flight was expensive, but also offered spectacular views of the west coast of Baja.

Tourists flock to this natural rock formation, a whale-watching site and snorkeling spot.
Had a wonderful hour taxi ride trip, great guide who told us the history of Lovers Beach and Divorce Beach, showed us the sea lions and made sure we saw Pedro the sea lion on the ride back!

My wife and I had a great trip to Exotikite Kiteboarding school. I have been to three other schools in Mexico and Hawaii. These guys are the best place I have found to take lessons. With what feels like endless beaches and great consistent wind, Los Barriles sets the stage for and epic place to learn. Exotikite has the best instructors I have taken lessons from, as well as some of the best equipment. They put radios on our helmets so they can continue giving instruction the entire time the students are in the water. They also have vehicles on the beach to take you upwind to maximize your upwind time with the instructors. We will be coming back!

Volcanic in origin, these islands serve as an oasis amid the Sea of Cortez, 250 miles off the Baja Peninsula coast. The raw lava flows and active volcanoes in these islands resemble the lost world of "Jurassic Park," which seems fitting as these outpost islands, including Roca Partida, beckon not just to giant mantas, but to a host of big animals. The manta behaviour here is unique in the world. The 12-to-16-foot giant mantas of Socorro seek out intimate interactions with divers. Dolphins, whale sharks, humpback whales, silky sharks, hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks and more can also be found here, depending on the time of year. Socorro is accessed by liveaboard dive boats, and promises to be the trip of a lifetime.
We wanted a trip with lots of sharks and guaranteed Mantas. We chose to go with Equator diving based near Manchester on the live aboard Valentina. The journey there was long to say the least from Manchester to Heathrow onto Dallas Fort Worth then to San Jose del Cabo. Boarded Valentina then a 36 hour sail out to San Benedicto one of three islands we dived out of the four in the Revillagigedos Archipelago. The diving did not disappoint with clear warm seas and an abundance of life including Whitetip reef sharks, Hammerheads, Silkies and the Mantas we wanted to see. We stayed for 2 days diving then sailed overnight to Socorro, again the diving was excellent Mantas, Galapagos sharks whitetips. Whilst there you have to pay a visit to the naval base for your passports to be checked. We then sailed to Roca Partida the smallest of the island and at first glance you wonder why your staying here for 2 days diving but once in the water you can see why. The life underwater is unbelievable, Whitetip reef sharks gather in the hollows and crevices in there dozens, Galapagos and Silkies swim around you, Silvertips seem to gather together and Mantas seem to just circle you as you complete your safety stop. Massive shoals of fish gather just off the rock, Morays and some of the biggest lobsters you’ll see hide amongst the cracks. The whole experience was excellent, the crew of the Valentina all went out of there way to help with kit and anything you needed and the food was first class.

By far the best horseback riding experience I have ever had. Everyone in my group agreed that this was the highlight of our four day trip in Ensenada.
