St Mary’s Church Leake is a beautiful grade 1 listed church in the shelter of the North Yorkshire Moors. It is a place of calm next to the busy A19 as it connects York to Teesside. We warmly welcome our “second congregation” who break their journeys here. If you are passing, do call in to explore our long history or to take in the quiet of this special place. There are a lot more details on our website. This includes a description the history of this amazing building, directions of how to find us, and services and events that may interest you.

You’ve probably read the books written by James Alfred Wight or watched “All Creatures Great and Small” on TV. Now come and see where James Herriot, the world’s most famous vet, lived, worked and relaxed. See his home and surgery in Thirsk; travel back in time to what life was like when James was a vet in Yorkshire. See the car he drove, step into the TV set, try your hand at being a vet and even experience what it was like to hide in a World War 2 air raid shelter!
This has got to be one of my favourite place's I have visited. The house looked as though the family had just popped out and you was visiting. The write ups were interesting and explained what happened in each of the rooms and how they were used over the years. There was also a room where children and adults could take part in interactive tasks. I use a mobility scooter and it was all fully accessible with the exception of the air raid shelter and this is explained on entry, there photos you can see if you wish, you also get free entry for one carer. The staff were very helpful and happy and items in the gift shop reasonable priced. Would highly recommend

Due to the current health pandemic, St Mary's is unfortuatley clsoed until further notice. Please do still join us online at www.thirskparishes.org or via our facebook page facebook.com/Thirskparishes. St Mary's is an active church in the center of Thirsk. The building has been described as a fine example of a medieval church. We love the building and want to allow others to enjoy it as well, either to meet with God, enjoy the architecture or soak up the history. Our team of volunteers look forward to welcoming you!
We came here for a quick visit and stayed for communion. Very welcoming parishioners (the lady in particular who welcomed us as we entered) and a charming vicar.
