Vinicola De Angelis

Facing the splendid gulf of Naples with its spectacular view of the sea we find the wine growing region and cellars of the De Angelis family. Raffaele De Angelis, in 1936, founded the family business continued by his family with the same passion and commitment which is respected throughout Naples. Overseen by Angelo Valentino is the production of the splendid and particular wines of piedirosso, aglianico, coda di volpe and falanghina. We visited in late January having booked on line. The winery is unusual in that it is in the town centre, just behind the railway station, so is very convenient to walk to. Rafaella was friendly and welcoming and very informative about the history of the company and the reason for it's location, and the wine making process. It goes without saying that we enjoyed tasting the wines, in fact so much so we ordered several boxes of the Lachrima Christi del Vesuvio to be shipped home. They arrived just a week later. I am happy to report we are enjoying it just as much here in miserable weather in February in England as we did in Sunny Sorrento.

My friend and I booked this through a local agency and we were happy we did. Cristiano picked us up and brought us to his beautiful home where he teaches the class in an outdoor kitchen with gorgeous views. We made pasta dough, homemade sauce, eggplant parm, and picked fresh basil from the garden all while sipping on great italian wine. At then end, we were able to take the recipes with us and purchase our very own authentic espresso carafes to commemorate our experience . Cristiano and his sister were wonderful hosts and it was a great way to spend our afternoon. Hope to visit again! (Trip was July 2019)

We knew as soon as we were greeted by Fabbio and his daughter Barbara at our pickup point in Sorrento this was going to be something to remember always! They were warm and friendly and obviously very passionate about what they do. As we wound our way through the hills above Sorrento, Fabbio told us about the history of his beloved Palazzo del Barone, perched high above the cliff tops with panoramic views from the Bay of Naples in the north, around to the island of Capri in the south. Absolutely breathtaking! Even before we began cooking inside we had a private tour of the gardens and the exquisite views from the 5 star appointed rooms and suite, where you can stay. The attention to detail here was amazing. Let’s just say you may not want to leave!! But back to the cooking! You are warmly greeted by Chef Agnese who takes you calmly and expertly through a selection of mouth watering dishes, starting with fried pizza caprese, ricotta ravioli, limoncello tiramisu and a highlight, the traditional dish Braciola Sorrento Style which was incredibly simple to prepare and so delicious ???? A favourite with all the family. We had some beautiful wines from their own vineyards and some special extra treats such as Nutella cookies for the kids and fresh bread and orange jam. Thank you Agnese for making it relaxed and fun for the kids with all the recipes to take home. We are going to have a Chez Barone cooking reunion when we get home. We hope to return to Palazzo del Barone to experience their soon to begin brand new pizza oven cooking classes, cake and gelato making classes and maybe even stay for awhile! Thank you Fabbio and family for a wonderful time in your home. Don’t hesitate to book this experience. You will love every minute of it!!
