One of the city's most ornate structures, this church is lavishly endowed with gold.
I was approached by a kind man who asked if I wanted a tour as I was heading inside to look around. He spoke several different languages, and was incredibly knowledgeable, reciting the names of the saints depicted, the dates of each stage of building this beautiful church, and the historical significance of the church itself. It was a pleasure to learn more of this history. I am very grateful!

At Español Interactivo Language School, we focus on teaching you Spanish and developing your conversational skills. Unlike some other schools, we don't distract you with a lot of extra activities. In the classroom, exploring Oaxaca, or a combination of both. Our courses are as intensive and for as long as you need. We plan learning strategies with you and monitor your progress, with the goal of improving your oral expression.
I spent three weeks at the school in October and November to improve my ability to speak in Spanish. The school focuses primarily on conversational methods rather than grammatical. As an intermediate student, I felt that the classes definitely helped me achieve a new level of ability. The classes were small, with 2 or 3 students in each class. The teachers are kind, patient and dedicated to helping each student get the most out of their experience. Several highlights included building an “ofrenda” in the school to celebrate Día de los Muertos and also celebrating a student’s birthday with a traditional piñata fiesta, also there were several field trips to local museums and an art gallery. I stayed with a local family, recommended by the school and enjoyed the friendship, good food and cultural experience the home stay adds.

This beautiful cultural center is pretty much the 'heart' of Oaxaca. It is part of the Alfredo Harp Helu (ex-owner Citibank) Foundation, which offers free concerts, conferences, handcraft workshops, artisanal fairs, etc. throughout the year. It also houses four traditional art galleries with installations that change every few months and a permanent library dedicated to preservation of native languages. Just outside and around the corner is the fabulous Textile Museum. Entrance to the Cultural Center and all events are free.

I wasn’t only born in Oaxaca but am descendant of one of the 16 original indigenous groups that exist in this beautiful state… the Zapotecs. I speak English Fluently and have an advanced level of French. I assure you a safe and memorable experience no matter where you want to tour or what you want to do here in Mexico. My GOAL is always to give you and your family the BEST experience. Your health, safety and making memories are my TOP priorities. I can guarantee that you will take more than just photos back home. Craft Beer tasting room in Oaxaca downtown specializing in hoppy beers and beers with local fruits.
Coming from Northern California home of Pliny the Elder and wonderful craft beers, I felt like I was at home drinking Oaxaca Brewing Company beers. They were unique, creative and delicious. I highly recommended to anyone who loves good beer.

This lavish cathedral sits on the town's zócalo.
This is a very ornate church with interesting side chapels. If you go on a Saturday you can watch all the wedding parties come out of the church and then go in procession down the main pedestrian walkway. Walk with them and enjoy the celebration.

This 17th-century church contains an interesting museum of religious art.
Beautiful church on the edge of el centro. Baroque in style, but not over the top. Maybe my favorite church in Oaxaca.
