A bevy of universities give Austria's second-largest city its lively pace. Baroque palaces are a pleasant contrast with 16th-century courtyards and provocative modern buildings. The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, teems with fine architecture, including the Burg castle complex, with its Gothic double staircase, and the graceful Uhrturm clock tower. A funicular takes visitors up the dramatic bluff. The River Mur dashes through the city, and thermal springs dot the surrounding countryside.

The world's largest preserved historical armoury displays some 32,000 objects from the 15th to 18th century.
We came in winter when access is by guided tour only. Luckily we happened to be there just in time for one. It was fantastic. Photos can't do the armoury justice. There is so much to be said about being there amounts the pieces, the smells of oils used to clean them. Amazing. Our guide was fantastic and very patient as we all tried on select samples of chain mail and wielded some replica swords. A must for anyone visiting Graz.

There were many tourists and restaurants nearby in that beautiful and historical place. Since I was not very hungry when I arrived, I chose a snack bar to had a hot dog. Several of its regular customers were drinking beer at Stand 12. When I was trying to have an order at that booth, the enthusiastic customers helped call the boss/staff. The people in that booth greeted the guests cheerfully and enthusiastically, and they ate, drank, talked and cheered with them. Although I was not drinking beer, I was infected. Then, they began to talk to me and we had quite some laughters. That was a very good lunch, not only because of the delicious hot dog, but also because of the wonderful and memorable "only here only now" experience!

An example Renaissance architecture and site of theatrical performances.
Landhaushof is a beautiful elegant Renaissance building. It is located in the very heart of Graz. Landhaushof has arcades on 3 floors. There are characteristic decorative vaulted windows, three-story arcade yard and magnificent fountain. Made by famous master Domenico dell'Allia. During winter you can see amazing sculptures made of ice, in the yard. The fountain is also a wonderful scene for festivals, concerts and movie projections. It is also the home of the Styrian regional parliament. 48 members of the Styrian provincial government meet in the baroque salon, the picturesque Arkadenhof. The interior is extremely richly decorated and equipped. A real jewel. The atmosphere is wonderful.
