Great collection of watercolour & oil paintings from Anders Zorn’s travels. Very interesting to see how he used photography as a notebook but also to paint from directly.

Reviewed By JoostN - Groningen, The Netherlands

The Carl Larsson house was our highlight of our 2 weeks travelling. We booked a tour in Swedish, but could reschedule to an english tour. Guide Linda (if I remember her name correctly) has given us an excellent tour. She is super knowledgeable, enthusiastic and it was amazing how she told the stories. The house is so nice to see, and I bet even booking an tour in a language you don't understand is worth is since there is so much to see. Also what we really liked is the Sundborn Strak (a walk of 4 km around the village where you can find history stories and the places where Carl Larsson got his inspiration. We enjoyed it for 3 hours and still could not see all the places. When the weather is good, this walk is a must to in order to have a full experience! You can pick up the flyer in town or in the Carl Larsson house.

Falu Gruva

A part of the world heritage Falun, Falu Gruva is open for the public offering guided tours under ground, above ground, an interactive museum, shops, cafées and restaurants.

We did the underground tour. Warning: it’s cold, can be a bit wet and muddy, so dress appropriately to fully enjoy the tour, which lasted about an hour. They give you helmets and plastic capes to protect you. I saw a lady in a short skirt, no tights, and nice low shoes. I’d be surprised if she ensued the tour down. Book ahead to avoid disappointment t. The area is big with something to suit everyone; interactive and descriptive museum, souvenir shop, cafe/restaurants in and around the area. A small train runs in the area, and I guess it especially attracts the smaller ones If you’re into walking, you can walk around the whole “hole”

Zorngarden

The Zorn House is one of the most well-known artist homes in Sweden. Built and decorated around the turn of last century by Anders and Emma Zorn, it remains today almost untouched since their time. Already in 1886, Zorn had acquired a vacant lot near Mora church and moved a small wooden house to the property, which became the nucleus for the couple’s Mora home. Designed by the artist himself, the structure combined local timberwork traditions with the architecture of English houses and Zorn’s conception of Viking-era dwellings – simultaneously rustic and refined, grand and cozy. Artistic craftwork from Dalarna mixed boldly with items of great value acquired from abroad: woven tapestries, silver pieces, antique sculptures, and paintings by old masters. Behind the rather discreet facade was a home equipped with every conceivable luxury: refrigeration, stainless-steel kitchen counters, central heating, hot and cold running water, even a vacuum cleaner.

Nils Olsson Dalahastar

I couldn't believe this was free as there was so much to see here. It's always nice to learn about the traditional of the places you are visiting and I especially liked the folk costumes and painted furniture. There were booklets for other languages, but it would've been nicer if it was clearer which part went with which section as I found it jumped around a lot. I also loved the little room dedicated Selma Lagerlöf and all the folk horses. A must see if in Falun and an excellent way to spend the afternoon.
