The Shed Distillery

Reviewed By G2420BEkennethf - Killenard, Ireland

Absolutely put this on your plan if you choose to visit Leitrim. Anne was our guide and she and all her colleagues we met were welcoming, knowledgeable and professional. We had a lovely tour, then a couple of drinks in the honey badger bar onsite. You get the 1st free with admission to the tour. You can see the €3M spent and the quality in how they put the experience together and the staff they hired are genuinely a pleasure to meet. Drumshambo itself is a picturesque small town and a lovely bike ride down the blueway from Leitrim village, another must see gem. So whether you’re hopping over from Carrick-on-Shannon or coming from one of these connected villages, take the tour in the Shed Distillery and enjoy a gin, a whisky or a vodka!

We were down from Donegal and were delighted to find this place. The owner has painstakingly restored some beautiful machines from yesteryear and has gathered a treasure trove of items that took me right back in time. The tour guide was so polite and informative too, it was well worth a visit !

Sean MacDiarmada's House

Seán MacDiarmada’s Cottage Co. Leitrim Visit the house of the 1916 Easter Rising leader Seán Mac Diarmada in Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim. This beautiful cottage is a designated National Monument owned and maintained in its original condition by the Office of Public Works. The cottage is of considerable historic importance, not only as the single existing home place of any of the seven signatories of the proclamation but as a fine example of a traditional Irish cottage, offering an insight into what life was like over 100 years ago. Seán MacDiarmada played a pivotal role in planning the Easter Rising of 1916. He was one of the seven signatories that signed the Proclamation of Irish Independence. Following his arrest after the Rising he was court martialed and executed by firing squad on 12th of May 1916 in the Stone-Breaker’s Yard in Kilmainham Gaol.

Like the Taj Mahal is a testament to a man's love for his wife, this smallest church in Ireland was erected in 1879 by Edward Costello as a memorial and burial vault for his wife Mary.

Manorhamilton Castle

Reviewed By MoniqueCarroll - Manorhamilton, Ireland

Today we visited this quaint castle with a rich full history. Five euros per adult, children are free. Our tour guide as always in Ireland was excellent, full of details, tongue in cheek humour and just all round splendid. It was freezing so we were glad to go into the warm and welcoming coffee shop where we had the best fruit scone with jam and clotted cream I have ever tasted. Service was unreal!!!!!! Well worth the visit if you make it up this far.
