Top 10 Things to do Good for a Rainy Day in Columbia, Maryland (MD)

October 27, 2021 Hector Krause

Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland, United States, and is one of the principal cities of the Baltimore metropolitan area. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. It began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious, and class segregation.

A Game of Rooms Columbia

The highly rated and acclaimed escape room from Rockville, Maryland now has a new location in Columbia! It's the perfect experience for birthdays, corporate team building, family bonding events, or even just a gathering of friends.

I absolutely love escape rooms and each one I've gone to delivers a unique experience. Our group completed Cabin fever with little time to spare and we enjoyed every minute of escaping and avoiding the avalanche. As we walked into the establishment, it smelled like fresh wood in a cabin! Clues were literally everywhere in the room and our host Andy was great, in costume and everything! I don't want to give any spoilers, but let's say I got to see something in this room that I've not seen in the other 8+ rooms I've completed before. The possibilities of escape rooms are endless and this one provided a new experience for me that I was not expecting. I hope this business is able to expand to create more rooms! Andy: I hope the title of this review is something to remember our group by! haha

Earth Treks is the best gym and climbing facility I've even been to. The employees are friendly and the facilities are always clean. The community is pretty nice over all. People generally stay out of each others ways other than when they want to help you.

Toby's Dinner Theatre

Our daughter and granddaughters took my husband and myself to Toby’s dinner theater of Columbia last night. We saw the musical production of Grease. What a great time we had. Got there a little early. Just before the doors opened. This was a good thing. You’re given a number and when it is called you can get your dinner from the buffet. Numbers start at 20 we were 24. Didn’t take long for us but seating went to over 75 tables. Our waitress Rachel was great plus she played Cha-Cha DiGregorio in the show. She was fantastic. All of the cast were superb. As good as the food was the show was even better. Most everyone knows the musical Grease and Tobys crew did it justice. They were all wonderful. Thanks Rachel our waitress and also thanks Rachel our daughter for a great evening.

Need a pick me up due to the blah weather and Covid-19?? Look no further! Make a reservation to ensure you have a table ready when you get there. We spoke to Chuck, he was super helpful with everything. Told us about BYOF...food that is. Homesylce isn’t far away so we swung by on our way to Hysteria and picked up some pizzas but he also told us they deliver to the brewery!! The ambiance worked well together and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly (thanks Shannon). They aren’t doing flights currently but they have plenty of cans or crowlers to go too. Shannon helped my fiancé and I choose the best beers and we can’t wait to go back with our dogs which we were told are welcomed inside the brewery. Hysteria prob had 15 or so beers to choose from, some rotate so if you fall in love with something seasonal make sure to take some with you. Thanks again Hysteria, can’t wait to return

The Soundry

Opened June 2018, The Soundry brings headliners and up-and-coming acts to the stage in Downtown Columbia. Brought to life by the same culinary team that envisioned classic DC area restaurants like Clyde’s & Old Ebbitt Grill, The Soundry combines great food with amazing entertainment in one unforgettable venue. And when YOU want to be the headlining act, the space can even host your private events.

Our first time enjoying a live band together. The Soundry is cool! We went to see the 19th Street Band and they were great. Doors open at 6:30 PM and you'd better get in line, even if you already have tickets, because it's grabbing a seat at the tables, as in first come, first serve type thing. The show itself started right on time at 8 PM and lasted until 11 PM. Plenty of room and a nice selection of comfort type food to choose from and drinks of course. We ordered the sweet potato fries that have bacon and mozzarella cheese on top. Really enough for three, we finished it. So good! For a drink (I hardly drink) I ordered their pear sangria. Just enough alcohol to warm my stomach, and that's it. Which was perfect for me. The pricing is fair for the food and drinks. Lighting is dark but not so dark that you can't see one another. The stage is cool with their lighting effects, and the sound system was perfect. No echo's, not too loud, and no screeching. Each mic perfect to hear each performer.
