Bali is a living postcard, an Indonesian paradise that feels like a fantasy. Soak up the sun on a stretch of fine white sand, or commune with the tropical creatures as you dive along coral ridges or the colorful wreck of a WWII war ship. On shore, the lush jungle shelters stone temples and mischievous monkeys. The “artistic capital” of Ubud is the perfect place to see a cultural dance performance, take a batik or silver-smithing workshop, or invigorate your mind and body in a yoga class.

We saw Setia Darma House of Mask and Puppets recommended in a guide book and put it on our list while in Ubud. First, adjacent to the parking lot, you'll see a small gift shop, selling authentic Balinese masks, shadow puppets, and jewelry. We liked this, but is was rather underwhelming and we sighed. We thought there would be more. Well, keep walking! You WILL find more! On the other side of a park-like green space you will find a museum housed in four buildings (at least). The masks range from tiny to huge, multi-person varieties, meant to be worn during annual festivals and such. The masks came in every size, shape and facial expression. WOW! We went from being underwhelmed to overwhelmed! You will marvel at the shadow puppet collection and the intricate artistry and craftsmanship on display. How could we be the only visitors there? Spent so much time browsing and reading all the cards (English included) that our guide must have wondered where we went. Well designed, well planned, lots of space to walk and admire. What a find! Do not miss this hidden treasure, just a short distance from the Elephant Cave (which was a let down). ENJOY!

Kharisma Antiques opened its doors in 1998, after many years of traveling and sourcing antiques and decorative objects from the archipelago of Asia. From years of knowledge, today we bring you a collection of antiques and home furnishings from all over Indonesia.
I was looking for somewhere to buy antique beads and was thrilled to find this store. The owner is an extremely knowledgable ex-pat with extensive experience selling antiques of all kinds but has a specialised knowledge of antique beads from all over the world. He was so friendly, helpful and a delight to shop with. He also makes his own jewellery with the beads if you’re just looking for something unique to take home from your trip instead of the usual en masse product sold everywhere.

Purpa Fine Art Gallery offers a unique collection of contemporary art by both established and emerging artists. We have represented most of the artists, not only Indonesian artists but artists of all nationalities who live in Bali or spend time here. Some of the artists are now recognized worldwide such as Walter Spies, Antonio Blanco, Hans Snell, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, Miguel Covarrubias, Arie Smit, Krijono and many others. It has been our goal to work with our artists for the long term, assisting them through their careers by exhibiting their works at our gallery and placing them in prominent collections. Very interesting and high quality range of beautiful Art pieces at Purpa ! We bought 2 paintings, one on site and a second about a week after leaving Bali. Ari and Sebastien are sincere and engaging. They love Art and were very warm and friendly in sharing their knowledge and helping us to choose our paintings Ari was very professional and helpful in helping arrange and monitor the delivery of our second painting by courier. I really liked this musuem. Food and talking to locals are two of the best ways to learn about a culture. So is sitting back and observing it. So, also - is art. There is loads to learn about the Ubud and Balinese culture at this musuem. Once again, lovely airy buildings to wander through a short taxi ride up from the main street. Well worth a few hours of wandering around.

Visiting the Pasifika art collection is one of a time opportunity to relax in an oasis of tranquillity and to view an extraordinary collection of paintings and other artworks. It is housed in an exquisite modern Balinese building designed by Popo Danes, one of the most celebrated Balinese architect. There will be Indonesian and Balinese artworks but also numerous paintings by those bohemian artists who came from Europe and other parts of the world starting from the 1930s, succumbing to the spells of the enchanting tropical Island. Stroll in the well-manicured garden, take some selfies, taste local delicacies with a 'kopi Bali', and above all enjoy the art. For a complete Bali experience, come and visit Pasifika.
Beautiful place and great atmosphere to see art with friendly and helpful staff, this place is located in the heart of Nusa Dua resort (BTDC).
