Formerly the studio of sculptor William Lamb, this museum was paid for by the commission the artist received for his sculptures of Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother.

This is a superb, breathtaking collection of powerful and moving sculptures in wood and stone by little known C20th Montrosian sculptor. Expertly curated by volunteers. Must be seen. Look for summer open times. Nearby is a gem of a local Museum, Montrose Museum, packed with interesting collections and artefacts including a display of taxidermy showing local wildlife and habitats which children adore!

ANGUSalive’s Gateway to the Glens Museum is situated in Kirriemuir Town House, a building that has been at the heart of Kirriemuir since its construction in 1604. The Museum opened in 2001 after the building was carefully restored and conserved. Here at Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum, local people and visitors to the town can discover the unique atmosphere of historic Kirriemuir and the splendour of the Angus Glens. OMG.....Gin lovers should absolutely give this a go, and Gin Haters should definitely try it!! We went just after Lockdown in the pouring rain, but it never dampened the visit!! Everything is on the level so if you are like me with mobility issues (on Crutches) then its easy accessed, may pose a bumpy problem for wheelchair users but I'm sure the taste of the gin will more than compensate for the bumps....lol we had Kim as our guide (founder of the Bothy Experience) and she was amazing, told us all about the methods in gin making, if this was a non covid visit she would have sang a few songs in the session too. All the staff are super friendly, and I can honestly say we will be back, its a great place to take visitors, or even just a wee day out to Glamis!! Whats also amazing is if you have a Driver, then they too still get the tasting experience as they take home a wee gin goody bag!!

I was very interested to visit HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother's childhood home and the place where the late Princess Margaret was born. Despite its imposing stature Glamis Castle is a very homely place. It was one of the first houses tin the UK to have central heating installed and so it was warm and cosy too. Hundreds of years of fascinating history of Scotland are told in the house and it was nice seeing casual photos of our Royal family 'at home' enjoying life inside their grand house. Outside, there is a well stocked walled garden, a beautiful Italian garden and pet cemetery, a memorial to Princess Margaret and a MacBeth Walk with wooden statues of characters from the Shakespeare story that was set in Glamis Castle and its grounds. The Castle has the comfortable feel of a private home and indeed, the 19th Earl of Strathmore still lives there.
