After residing in Paso Robles for a decade, Coy and Sarah Barnes turned their passion for wine, entertaining, and the rural countryside into a thriving little tour company called “The Wine Wrangler”. The Wine Wrangler was created on August 3, 2004 as Paso Robles’ first, authentic wine tour company. Within a year the couple wanted to create an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the Paso Robles wine tasting experience throughout the year, in the comfort of their own homes. They created the first and only wine club featuring Paso Robles wines and took their family business to whole new level. Coy, an educator and winemaker, grows his own zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon, and syrah on the family’s property in Paso Robles. When he’s not escorting visitors through the wine country, he’ll be rustling up wines from some of his favorite Paso Robles wineries and sharing them with the world through his Paso Robles Wine Club. Our greatest pleasure is to help people from out of the area to discover the diversity and finesse of Paso Robles wines. Coy & Sarah Barnes

Located in West Paso Robles, on top of Peachy Canyon, Law Estate Wines has a sharp focus on producing ultra-premium Rhone style blends using our sustainably farmed, hand-picked and hand-sorted estate grapes. Our vineyard design and approach with minimal intervention is in honor of the distinct microclimates that embody the elevated terroir of our vineyard. Law Estate winery is cutting edge; with gravity flow production, minimal intervention fermentation practices, and wines that are crafted by the experienced hand of Scott Hawley. A hosted flight tasting in our contemporary tasting room bestows the opportunity to enjoy the exceptional architecture and defining views from our various indoor and outdoor seating areas. Please call or email to set up your appointment!
This is mostly a review on the new Law Estate Guest Cottage since it does not yet have its own TripAdvisor listing. We had an opportunity to book the Guest Cottage for a special family birthday celebration over Labor Day Weekend. Although we more often frequent Napa and Sonoma wineries given their proximity to us, Paso Robles is ideally situated for our small family gatherings given it is equidistant from LA and the SF Bay Area where we all live. And with the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt a private cottage was much safer than a busy hotel over the holiday weekend. The staff assured us that the cottage is fully sanitized between guests. Indeed, they told us it was cleaned twice in the 11 days since the last guest had departed. Located inside the Law Estate Wines property on Peachy Canyon Road, “cottage” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s more like a contemporary new house, just without a garage. As it was only opened completed in July 2020, the outdoor landscaping is not yet done. But the cottage itself is wonderful. It includes two spacious master bedroom suites, each with a king size bed and an en suite bathroom, plus a living room, gourmet kitchen with bar seating for four, and even a laundry room with washer and dryer. The living room/kitchen area has large sliding glass doors that lead to a patio with beautiful views of the vineyards and rolling hills. There is a large outdoor table with seating that looks like it could accommodate 8-10 people. There is good Wi-Fi throughout the cottage. Although we didn’t cook during our stay, the kitchen has pretty much everything you need – a large built-in KitchenAid refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, Nespresso coffeemaker (with included coffee capsules), chilled reverse osmosis water dispenser, cooking utensils, silverware, cutting boards, knives, dishes, etc., and even a wine refrigerator stocked with Law Estate Wines, of course. Any bottles you drink are simply added to your bill. The large TV in the living room has DirecTV satellite service and a surprisingly good Bose sound bar. However, a previous guest had unplugged the power from the DirecTV box and it had been left that way for at least a couple of weeks, so it needed a system “refresh” pushed to it from the satellite in order to get reactivated. That wasn’t a problem for us, since we preferred to stream movies at night anyway using my son's iPad and an HDMI adapter. Each of the bedrooms also has a smart TV that you can stream to using your laptop or phone. Wi-Fi bandwidth was excellent for streaming. Cell phone signal strength in the somewhat rural area is poor (at least for AT&T), so make sure you have Wi-Fi calling enabled on your phone. The flip side of being out in the country means the stars are just incredible at night! As we drove two Tesla EVs, it would have been a pleasant bonus if there was an EV charger on site. Alas, no. However, many wineries in the Paso area have Tesla chargers and there are superchargers in nearby Atascadero and San Luis Obispo. There is also a standard 120V outlet outside the front door which one can use to top off if needed – but at that voltage, one adds only ~2 miles/hour. Currently, all cottage reservations are made in advance by contacting the winery. You can self-check in anytime you want after 4 pm as you are given entry codes for both the Law Estate property gate (be sure to enter “#” before the number they give you) and the cottage itself (no “#” needed). Check out is at 11 am. I’m not sure if they routinely do this or not, but there was a lovely bouquet of fresh flowers awaiting us at the cottage and a personalized welcome sign. What a nice touch! If you are a club member, there is a 25% discount on the daily rate through the end of 2020. Although we won our stay in a virtual tasting contest, $750/day seems reasonable for two couples sharing the cottage. Indeed, as maximum occupancy for the cottage is four people, our daughter stayed at a small, rustic cabin on another winery property for $350/night – not sized for more than one couple with a small child. Rates are comparable considering the two-couples size and luxurious accommodation. Law Estate Wines is our favorite winery in the Paso Robles area. If you like premium Rhone-style wines, it is not to miss. We are members of their wine club, so we were especially pleased that they decided, after we booked our stay, that the same weekend would be their annual Fall Release weekend. Club members enjoyed the five 2017 vintage Fall Release wines plus Soph, their only white wine, along with food pairings at private outdoor tasting sessions. This was in lieu of their normal release party given the need to socially distance during the pandemic. While we were there, they found out that Jeb Dunnuck, a well-known wine critic with a particular expertise in Rhone wines, rated all of these release wines between 95 and 98 points. Addie Pitts, their hospitality manager and our personal host for the tasting, was just wonderful. Co-proprieter Susie Law and Oliver Espharam (general manager) stopped by to say hello. Even Sophia, Oliver’s daughter, stopped by to tell our granddaughter a kitty joke. Our two grown children liked Law the best of the five Paso wineries we visited over the weekend - so much so that they both decided to join the wine club. Kudos to the Law team for outstanding wine and outstanding hospitality!

Harmoniously blended wines expressing each vineyard presents a complex series of challenges that renew themselves each vintage. My goal and passion is to bring you the best that each unique harvest has to offer.
While celebrating our first anniversary we stopped in for a visit. Luckily, Katie was working this day and took care of us. We have known Katie for awhile and she is a true professional who is passionate and knowledgeable about what she is pouring in your glass. She expertly guided us thorough the tasting menu and helped us pair our wine with the cheese box we had ordered. She gave us exactly the right advise to bring out the unique flavors of the wine with the cheese and fruit in the tasting box. Naturally, this greatly enhanced the experience!! My wife and I have been enjoying McPrice Meyers wine for years. It is truly some of the best Paso has to offer. But what makes this winery so special is not just the wine but also the people!! McPrice Meyers and his staff are truly the total package. Do yourself a favor if you're in Paso Robles. Stop in, say hi to Mac, give Indie the wine dog a little scratch behind the ears and ask for Katie. You will have a memorable experience and likely walk away with a new wine club under your belt.

We happened in the area for a fabulous wine tasting and signed up for an exquisite wine pairing dinner in the cellar. Service was very good but the wine and dinner was awesome. I might have to save up for it again...and I certainly will!

Eberle Winery is a family-owned producer and marketer of premium wines, representing the Eberle Estate, single varieties and designated vineyards. Eberle wines have showcased the history and diverse flavors of the Paso Robles Appellation since 1979. Gary launched his career as a winemaker and as the “Pioneer” of Paso Robles Wine Region by helping to establish his family's Estrella River Winery & Vineyards. In the late 70’s, he decided to pursue his own project and acquired nearly 64 acres just down the road from Estrella River Winery. Shortly thereafter, Gary released his first Eberle wine, the 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon debuting the iconic boar logo, depicting the German origin of the name Eberle, meaning “small boar.” Reservations are now required to visit and can be made online or by calling us. We have changed up a few things so that we can provide a welcoming and safe environment for wine tasting and bottle service. Please let us know if you have any questions.
Highly recommend visiting this winery! We visited on a cool rainy day and since sitting outside was not an option, they had opened up the wine making room for seated tastings. Our server, Kirk, was a delight. He not only educated us on Eberle wines, but entertained us with some jokes. The wines here were very tasty. We particularly liked the Full Boar Red - especially for the price. The Zin & Cab were quite nice also. Worth a stop while visiting Paso Robles!

TOBIN JAMES-IT'S ALL TRUE!! Open 10 - 6 daily. Tobin James Cellars, established in 1985, is famous for its rich, intense Cabernet Sauvignons, Zinfandels, Syrahs, Merlot, Bordeaux blends, Chardonnay and many other varietals. Tasting at the Grand Antique Bar, the popular Tasting Room is always a must for wine lovers. The legendary James Gang Wine Club is a growing testament to the winery's commitment to excellent quality and its fun, unpretentious approach to wine. Complimentary tasting. Only closed Christmas Day.
What an amazing wine tasting experience at Tobin James! First, I was surprised at a review that said that the winery was not COVID safe. That could not be further from the truth. When we arrived for our reservation, all staff members were wearing masks, our temperatures were taken before we were allowed in, and we were told to please wear a mask until we got to our tasting station. The tasting stations were well distanced along a stretch of long tables. What made this winery the absolute best for tasting during this COVID period is that each tasting area had a staff member that poured whatever wine you wanted from the Tobin James portfolio! Every other tasting we did at other wineries in the area that day only offered flights with limited staff interaction and sometimes long waits between flights. The pours were usually not very generous and because of limited staff, re-pours were difficult. At Tobin James, if you wanted more of what you especially liked, your server was right there and more than happy to do so...thank you Kaye! The wines at Tobin James were outstanding with a good range of different varietals at different price points. I found other wineries had increased their prices substantially from what I remember, so that was somewhat disappointing, and really can limit your wine purchases, especially if you are on a tighter budget. Their Wine Club is really different as well and a real bargain for the quality of wines offered, Thanks again Tobin James for a wonder wine experience and please thank Kaye for us!
