"Shadow Museum" is a unique art space where modern art objects in the style of shadow art are represented. All the art works are connected in a unified exposition, the excursion "St. Petersburg of shadows" is provided in Russian and English. The museum also has a creative kitchen where all the visitors have a chance to enjoy a cup of tea and share their impressions or create their own art works.
The Shadow Museum displays a style of art that I have not seen anywhere else. We were given a guided tour, in English, of the artwork some of which was very clever. It is not the longest tour ever, we were there a little under an hour, but for less than a fiver a head, it is well worth a visit!

This simply designed bridge crossing the Neva River is best known for the magnificent view it creates when its elevated platforms frame the gilded spire of the SS Peter & Paul Cathedral rising in the background.
Probably the best time to see and enjoy Palace Bridge is during the wonderful White Nights Festival which takes place during and either side of shortest night of year 21st June. During this time the whole city exudes a wonderful atmosphere as people from various parts of Russia , as well as further afield , enjoy spectacular short nights and long relaxing days. The streets and squares along the Neva river throng with life and large crowds gather to celebrate the raising of the many bridges, particularly around Palace Bridge. It genuinely is carnival like in its atmosphere and many people stay up all night to maximise the experience. It is very family friendly and joy to be part of this lovely festival

Now a floating museum, this historic ship helped rescue the Italian polar expedition led by Umberto Nobile, led Allied arms and supply convoys in World War II and later conducted polar research expeditions.
So glad I visited this ship, the history behind this icebreaker is astonishing. No audio guide and my tour guide had next to no English but that didn't detract from an excellent tour. There is a lot of English translation throughout the Museum but even without you can sense the history and work it out for yourself, from a Armed escort during the Russian convoys from England during the war back to a rescue boat when an Italian airship had problems on an expedition to the North Pole.
