Zona Arqueologica Teotihuacan

The Pyramid of the Sun and the Pyramid of the Moon dominate the ruins of what was once the sixth largest city in the world.

Pros- incredible pyramids that you are still able to climb and get amazing views ! Cons- loads of people especially if you arrive after lunch Tips- arrive before 10 am; climb Sun Pyramid first ( to avoid the massive crowds and heat); then climb Moon Pyramid; bring water and sunscreen and a hat; you will spend about 4-6 hours if you have lunch at a local restaurant; no need for a guide if you have access to internet; check out sightdoing.net - How to visit Teotihuacan without a tour by Becky. Great website with step by step instructions including photos.

Huasteca Potosina

Go with Expediciones huaXteca (Arturo is the best!) for the waterfall jumping and ziplines. A total blast, reasonably safe (the bike zipline and bridge are not for the faint-hearted; would never be allowed in the States). Don't, however, take the tour for Tamul Waterfall. We didn't do it, but from what I was told by other travellers you are in the boat for 2 hours and in the end you are still pretty far from the waterfall. Instead take a tour or drive to Campamento Tamul above the falls. You'll have to get a guide provided by the village, so you don't need a separate guide to get you to the campamento. The last 20 minutes are on a very bad road, so you couldn't do it in a rental car. Then it's a beautiful walk along the river to the falls. From there, there's a path down to the river and you're far closer to the falls than the people in the boats and you have a much better view. Go early in the day to avoid the crowds/heat. The path to the river goes down some steep ladders.

I’ve never seen anything like this place in my life. The whole house, and surrounding structures are completely covered in mosaics and other bizarre creations. Definitely worth the trip.

The canoe ride to the waterfall took us about 30 minutes. The view was amazing! Butterflies were everywhere! You pass several small waterfalls along the way. There is a place to stop that sells food and drink. Prices were very reasonable, I think bottled water was less than 15 pasos (no price gouging).

We were a group of four who took a bus from the Poniente bus station in Mexico City to the Don Bruno hotel for three nights in early March. We were lucky to have sunshine for visiting Sierra Chincua and el Rosario since the butterflies were very active, but the high point was our guide Oscar who not only did an excellent job of explaining everything we were seeing, but also took us around to the other sites in Angangueo. He has suffered the cancellation of 10 trips this year because of the difficulties in the town and is supporting a family on what he makes guiding and driving taxi. We highly recommend Oscar Reyes. His contact information is [email protected] or WhatsApp +52 715 127 2308.

Puente de Dios

At God’s Bridge, the water is super blue. The current from the waterfall is strong so they have installed thick floating ropes to help you ‘navigate’ if you are not strong enough to swim against the current. Beautiful waterfalls surround you on three sides. You can jump, climb, be immersed in the water or get pounded by the waterfalls. But the real surprise is a small opening in one of the rocks. Once you go through that opening (which most guides keep for last for obvious reason), you enter a cave like tunnel to get you to the ‘other side’. The color is breathtakingly blue, and its light seems to come from below (on a sunny day). It is both beautiful and magical. Some people don’t realize how strenuous all this jumping, climbing, and cavorting can be. While I was there, a woman had a heart attack and died. All guides jumped in to help her to no avail. A reminder to pace yourself. This is an AMAZING place that fills up quick, so it is best seen in early morning and not on weekends or holidays.

Teotihuacan Pyramids

Reviewed By leahau - Regina, Canada

Teotihuacán pyramids are incredible. Pyramid of the sun abs pyramid of the moon can both be climbed, as well as some smaller pyramids. The steps are rough and very steep and sometimes uneven. They have hand rails on most sections of the climb up and down. Beautiful views from both pyramids. There is also locals selling their handicrafts at the entrance and exit as well as within the site. I didn’t notice any water being sold so being your own. It can get very hot. There are bathrooms near the entrance. When we arrived we were asked if we wanted a free history tour. We followed a lady in her motorbike to a little store where someone talked about the agave plant and we sampled some tequila. Then we were asked to look through their store. — avoid this if you do not want to purchase anything or get the “history” which wasn’t actually given. Highly recommend this visit. It’s a ways out of Mexico City, but worth the drive.

Parque Nacional Grutas de Cacahuamilpa

These interconnected caves feature 20 huge halls that once were a hideout for runaway Indians.

Reviewed By castleg85 - Mexico City, Mexico

This was a last minute trip and I have to say...WOW! The cave is huge! The walk is about 2hr and about 4 miles 2 in and 2 out, we bought the whole experience including the underground cave tour, if you take that tour make sure you know how to swim (90% recommended as the there are some high spots where you either climb or take the small river). Make sure to take non-slip shoes as the rocks as pretty slippery and if you will get in the water i would suggest that your phone be water resistent so that you can record your tour and at the end of the underground cave you get jump into the river about 10-15 feet off but IT IS FREEZING COLD!
