Looking at this dated house and the shaby imterior you do not expect too much.Big surprise when food was served. Very good filet with some vegetables and fries. Good local drinks.Service however was very unfriendly for a group spending north of 1000!

right across our Hotel Appenzell during the 2018 Landsgemeinde we spent the evening at the Santis. Very typical dinner lounge on the first floor, a lively crowd of visitors and local politicians discussing the votes, we had a nice local specialties dinner, soup mixed salad and sausages. friendly service and good wine list. Startied with an Appenzell beer and ended with an Appenzeller, the herbal hot drinkDear Ivan MWe are very happy that you enjoyed your stay after the Landsgemeinde with us. Thank you for all the compliments regarding the food and beverages, especially the good wine list. It would be an honour to welcome you back in future!Have a great time and all the bestRomantik Hotel SäntisStefan A. HeebHotelier

We ate here twice within a week. The place has Swiss charm. Locals playing cards, eating and drinking. A warm welcome, and a warm or I should say hot temperature. The food is all nicely prepared to order. You can get pasta, pizza, steak, schnitzel and it's all very good. Portions are large and enjoyable. Service is of course efficient, this is Switzerland. Yeah, nice place.

We decided not to bother with the lunch crowds at Aescher and had a very enjoyable lunch here instead. Pommel frites or hot fresh crispy and absolutely delicious, as were the bratwurst and the house made delicious apple sauce. Very efficient service. Nice views of the valley below

We had lunch here. My friends had very traditional Swiss dish: Cervelat Salad ( a kind of Swisssausage) and I had Veal cultlet with noodles and vegetables. My friends were all very satisfied with their order. It was nicely presented. Mine was tasteful and the vegetables are just cooked right, not too soft, not too hard. The service was friendly. In addition we were blessed with a beautiful mountain view. It couldn't be better. I took a look at the restaurant inside, the country atmosphere also appeals to me, wooden furnitures, very clean and comfortable. Would definitely reommend it to a friend.

Just barely off the large square in town, the zur Linde offers a small outdoor (in good weather) area to eat and drink and a typical Swiss and Appenzell interior. Every Wednesday in the evening around 7 or so, a group of local folks come in and socialize and sing older Appenzeller songs all a capella. Their voices are strong and sweet and it is a wonderful way to get a sense of the area and its hard-working people. The food is, by the way, some of the best Swiss fare you will find anywhere. Chicken with morels? Kalbsbratwurst with rosti? Spaetzli? Send me in, coach!

Our Hotel is located in the center of Appenzell, directly at the historical Landsgemeindeplatz. «S'Appezöll», as the locals call it, is the perfect meeting place for a fine lunch, for coffee and cake, a homemade dessert, an aperitif or a dinner with candl
On our second night in Appenzell we chose another Rick Steves recommended restaurant, this time the Cafe-Hotel Appenzell. With the weather cooperating, we sat out for dinner and as they were celebrating asparagus season, I had cream of asparagus soup and my wife and I both had the special of chicken breast over white and green asparagus, which was heavenly! Luckily we both managed to fit in dessert as well; mine was a very creamy Tiramisu. I would recommend Cafe-Hotel Appenzell most highly. As many of the eateries we ate at, they try to use local produce.

My dad and I came to this bar/restaurant on a recent trip to Appenzell. Service was super quick and the food was really nice. Would come again!

Facilities in this modernized and upper class hotel are great, as is food. The rooms were well-equipped. The pool is fantastic and there are many outdoor activities to take advantage of in this beautiful area. Do bear in mind that this hotel also serves as a high-class rehab centre with the corresponding clientelle.

I had planned to come to The Aescher with my family for months. Although some TA experts said to skip it because it was closed indefinitely. I wrote to the restaurant email and got a kind reply from Nicole. She said the restaurant would be open mid May. All weather reports said rain yesterday and I felt like crying. It was our only day in the area. But when we woke up at 8am, there was some sun trying to peek through the clouds. With guidance from another knowledgeable TA expert who said the rain would be light, we decided to chance it and head to The Aescher.Luckily the rain stayed away with intermittent clouds and sun all through the day. There was some fog off and on. The walk down from the Ebenalp cable car station wasnât as hard as others described. So relieved. And we arenât rugged outdoorsy people. We didnât even wear outdoor hiking boots or anything closely resembling them. The path was mostly paved, not full of slippery rocks and mud as I had envisioned. The walk down was also about 20 minutes max. The cave part was interesting too.The restaurant looked like it was given a re-fresh. The menu was quite varied, a little pricey but we could appreciate how everything had to be brought up there. We enjoyed our entire experience which included the food, wine, beer and dessert. The friendly service was top notch too. Thank you to the only waiter serving the tables outside today. You were so nice and made our time there wonderful.Weâd definitely love to return.
