This traditional, regional Swiss eatery with a contemporary spin sits just across the Rhine from Liechtenstein. We sat outside beneath a vine-draped canopy until a cool August wind (and later rain!) drove us into the converted barn which is the Ãpfelblom restaurant. Karen and I opted for the traditional Zürigeschnetzeltes (veal) with Rösti (a sort of Swiss hash brown) which was absolutely delicious! My sorbet (swimming in vodka) would have been a problem had I been driving⦠especially as I'd had a couple of the excellent Liechtensteiner Brauhaus beers beforehand. We were treated by our friend⦠I think the bill came to about 100CHF each. Not cheap, but then Switzerland isn't. Highly recommended!

We were looking for Restaurant Kainer but somehow we ended up at Guflina after having been unable to find it with our GPS.The view might be much better here than Kainer. We arrived around 2 so only simple foods wee available but we quite enjoyed the atmosphere and services.Night view might be much nicer I would imagine.
First of all, this is more than just a restaurant. It is also a mountain hut that offers dormitory style accommodation. There are I think two dorm rooms. I stayed in the larger room which could hold quite a few people although when I was there it mostly empty. If you aren't aware of what this is: you get a comfortable but thin mattress with minimal spacing between the next mattress, clean linens and a pillow. It is not for everyone, but it was very clean and comfortable. No showers. The food was standard Swiss/German style stuff, and average at best, but very tasty after a day of hiking in the Liechtenstein mountains! If you are a member of a climbing club make sure to mention it. Some clubs have agreements for reduced costs stays for their members. The American Alpine Club is one such club. The terrace has a fantastic view, so eat outside if you can. There are many, many hikes and climbs in the area and this hut could easily be used as a base of operations for fantastic day hikes.

We arrived starving. No English menus but staff helped us navigate options (sort of...). We picked the set menu - soup, salad and main course. None of us finished our food due to huge portion sizes. Good homely cooking, comfortable vibe. Weâd probably go back.

Restuarant Kainer offers some wonderful views over the Rhine valley and is worth a visit for these alone. We came on a Sunday evening and the restuarant was quiet so were easily able to get a table with a view. There's an extensive menu, but it is expensive so we just ordered drinks and a main course each. I wasn't expecting to, but I really enjoyed my selection of fish with asparagus. Equally, my husband enjoyed the meat that he ordered. Service was friendly and efficient too. Was definitely worth a drive up from Vaduz, even if we weren't there all that long

The food was exceptional. The real treat of the dining experience was the phenomenal view. We had a fabulous sunset view while we enjoyed our meals.

...but then so is the Principality of Lichtenstein! A kind of bakery bordering on cafe on Vaduzâs premier (and possibly only) pedestrianised walkway. They serve open sandwiches with sometimes odd (but tasty) fillings eg creamed celery with odd (but tasty) toppings eg the aforementioned celery with walnut and pineapple. Coffee very so so - mittle-Europe tasteless - but comes with a tiny biscuit in a wrapper. Nice to sit outside in the shade...at least that bit is for free (well, relatively speaking, since Iâd paid â¬8 for a coffee and a slice of bread with topping!)

I was lucky enough to go to the Berggasthaus Masescha just after it reopened. We arrived after hiking all morning, a bit tired and definitely hungry. We were not disappointed! The meal itself was delicious. I ate the "medley of salads," which was prepared very nicely, and the classic rosti, which was prepared simply (no cheese or other distractions) but perfectly. Our entire group enjoyed the lunch and the fantastic view, but the apricot cake really knocked our socks off.Thank you for your visit. The team and I, we the associates of the Berggasthaus Masescha really appreciate your kind and positive comments. Pease come back and see us again

The attention was super nice, and the ambiance was excellent ! Nice typical swiss-german restaurant. We ordered a cordon bleu with french fries and cranberry sauce, and it was really nice. Nevertheless, i think paying 29 euros for that dish is too much... it's a schnitzel with fries, after all.But it's highly recommendable. If i get back, i would definitely try other dishes.

Our two families had a nice lunch in the bar at this truly antique hotel, very carefully renovated. Check out the ancient wine press downstairs.
