Drove past this place and decided to have some sushi for dinner. This place can be very crowded during dinner hours. There was a ticket machine to get a queue number, but however it is only in Japanese. End up, i got 4 counter seats instead of the table seat that I wanted for my family of 4. Food is decent and very affordable. Service is good from the staff but there seems to be not enough staff on duty hence the waiting area feels a bit chaotic. Saw mostly locals there eating.

We had the 9-course Omakase dinner, consisting of many types of sashimi & sushi (no less than ten different kinds of fish/sea creatures ... I lost count), chicken, and soup, with ice cream to end the meal. The food was fresh, and lovingly prepared. Every course was delicious and the portions just right. The two young waiters who served my group of four spoke some English, did well to explain every dish that was served, and ensured that we knew what we were eating! The meal, with alcoholic drinks, came up to about US$65 per person. Good value for high quality food.

Inventive, imaginative and utterly delicious fare served in a modern style with interesting fusion and a touch of molecular gastronomy. This could well be the best Japanese food I've had anywhere - and I've been a regular traveler to Japan for 30 years; plus I lived there for 2. The chef has an amazing eye for wonderful flavour combinations. Blow fish sashimi? You bet! Foie gras sushi? Yes again. The degustation set menu was stunning with every dish complimenting the ones before and after. Even the deserts were magnificent - which is unusual in a Japanese restaurant! We loved it and it was a very special experience. I now have a new bar set for Japanese fine dining.

This restaurant follows the new trend in Sushi shops in Japan mixing the casual atmosphere with higher quality fish and sushi dishes. Rather than opt for traditional sophisticated and often expensive sushi locale, these new trending sushi shops often have kaiten-sushi (conveyor belt sushi), but slightly higher quality and prices than the 100 yen/150 yen a plate cheap sushi places. They also have dishes not seen at either the cheap kaiten-sushi places or the sophisticated expensive places (which mostly offer traditional dishes). And Suiten is hands down a great place to eat. There are a variety of traditional and new style sushi dishes. Several of the dishes you can order offer you a fish three ways, or a type of fish three ways. These kinds of dishes offer a variety not seen in traditional or cheap sushi resteraunts. In addition, you always have the conveyor belt going around to grab whatever pulls your imagination. The staff are very accomodating and the sushi comes quickly. There are a number of staff working all the time. There are a couple of caveats you should be aware of when visiting Suiten.First, the place is popular. So, it will fill up very quickly almost everyday of the week for lunch. If you go for lunch be there at open or just after opening to get a seat without waiting. Second, not all seats have access to the conveyor belt. If you don't mind sitting at the counter or a table without access to the conveyor belt, you will wait less. There is still a place for those without conveyor belt access to stand and get some dishes from the conveyor belt.Other than that, this is good quality sushi with a variety of dishes at reasonable prices.

Chanced upon this place along the small alley near our BnB. The traditional style & non-touristy feel had us try it without hesitance & it turned out we ate one of the best sushi we have ever had! The freshness of the fish, coupled with the generous mouth-filling portion, every bite is heavenly! We went back 2 days in a roll & would have done it everyday had we stay longer in Beppu. Thumbs up!

Went to Hajime Sushi for dinner and ordered the sushi platter. All I could say is WOW! The seafood is fresh! I guess that explains why the restaurant is packed and even the Japanese made reservations before coming. We were lucky to get seats. â¤ï¸

I think this is the best place to eat sushi in this prefecture. The fish is cut big size and the Shari( Rice ) is good hardness. My favorite "Neta" are "Salmon" and "Akagai"!! you should try!
