Step across the threshold and back in time at the W. Laurence Sweeney Fisheries Museum. Explore the Sweeney marine heritage through unique exhibits: a simulation of a traditional fishing wharf, complete with fishing, processing and ship repair sheds, wharf decks and even a coastal freighter.
A small but beautiful museum to learn about the history of Sweeney Fisheries. We were here for research, but this is a museum for everyone interested in the fish industry and fishing boats etc.

A place to celebrate Weymouth's past and future. An information center as well as retail area with locally made items and free WI FI. In our upstairs area for 2017 we will featuring exhibits from our five founding cultures: Mi'kmaq, Acadian, White and Black Loyalist, who worked alongside the Stehelin family of France who came to our area 125 years ago from France to carve a new life for themselves. This is story has captured the imagination of many as they learn how this family made a home and sawmill community 20kms in the back country which was able to produce electricity some 20 years before Weymouth had any power. The Electric City is just one of the stories that shaped the history of Weymouth.

Acadian History spanning more than four centuries waits to be discovered. Museum, research Center, History, arts and crafts, quilting, gift shop
Great setting, layout just right, interpretive guides in their period clothes were tremendous. They were very friendly and informative, clearly enjoying their work. The gift shop also suited the pioneer focus with homemade products including metal work from the forge, woolen accessories and preserves. There's also a café but our timing was not appropriate.
The Gilbert Cove & District Historical Society is a non-profit organization that was est., 1982 to save the then vacant lighthouse from vandalism and decay. All money raised from donations, memberships and the sale of crafts in the gift shop go to help maintain and beautify the old lighthouse. On display are many historical pictures as well as some marine artifacts. Tea room, crafts, & parking.
