The bohemian allure and fairytale features of Prague make it a perfect destination for beach-weary vacationers who want to immerse themselves in culture. You could devote an entire day to exploring Prazsky hrad (Prague Castle), then refueling over a hearty dinner at a classic Czech tavern. Spend some time wandering the Old Town Square before heading over to gape at The Old Town Hall and Astronomical Clock. Prague’s best bars are found in cellars, where historic pubs set the scene for a night of traditional tippling.

Muzeum ceskeho granatu

The Bohemian Garnet Museum is a unique exhibition where you can see outstanding jewellery and objects that are decorated exclusively with Bohemian garnet.

In the same building as the Fantastika Black light theatre, it offers a short yet well-balanced experience of documentary, interactivity, jewellery design and craftsmanship, leading to the national glorification of a stone known as Czech granát. Loved the idea that you can look for your own piece of Czech granát - as found in nature, which you can take with you as a souvenir. The staff is friendly and approachable.

Speculum Alchemiae Museum

Our museum called Speculum Alchemiae, is situated in one of the oldest houses in Prague. There are secret alchemical laboratories from the 16th century in the museum underground that were built for the king Rudolf II. The alchemists of that time used to prepare elixirs in there. The museum building also includes a shop, where equal elixirs can be bought. These elixirs are prepared under strict conditions according to their original recipes which have been found here. Newly, we also offer a unique tour of magical places in Prague which are connected with the Speculum Alchemiae museum. The guided tour includes the Prague Castle, Vysehrad, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and the museum. At these places you learn about many amazing legends and mythological stories associated with the so-called Prague Magical Triangle.

I would never claim to have any great knowledge about art but even I have heard of Dali and Warhol so I couldn’t resist visiting this gallery and I wasn’t disappointed. Each of the three artists has a whole floor dedicated to his work. I enjoyed seeing the work of all of them but particularly enjoyed the Warhol stuff. The gallery is in the old square area and easy to access.

This was the first museum I visited in Prague, and I think I made the right choice. The place is really cool, and you get to read a little about various prominent people in Czech history and culture. And not only people! My favorite by far was the room with Pat and Mat, whom I wasn't really familiar with before. If you're confused, they are cartoon characters. Anyway, this was a fun way to get introduced to their antics and see a cute and carefree side to Czech culture.

Czech Cubism Permanent Exhibition

The newly-open permanent exhibition of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague presents Czech Cubism as a style that conceptually combines fine art, applied arts and architecture. The display of furniture suites and individual pieces, together with accessory furnishings and objects made of ceramic, glass and metals offers an overview of the foremost creative achievements of Czech Cubism’s key exponents. Represented are architects and designers Pavel Janák, Josef Gočár, Josef Chochol, Vlastislav Hofman, Otakar Novotný and František Kysela. Their works are complemented by Cubist paintings by Emil Filla, Bohumil Kubišta, Josef Čapek and Václav Špála, and sculptures by Otto Gutfreund. A screening of contemporary and period photographs featuring Prague‘s Cubist and Rondo-Cubist buildings and designs documents the influence of Cubism on architecture.

Many museums are overwhelming, overcrowded and exhausting. This small museum is delightful, not daunting. It is devoted to the Cubist architecture, art, furniture and fabric movement which found its greatest expression in Prague in the early part of the 20th Century. The displays are located in a building which itself is a masterpiece of Cubist architecture, and afterwards you can relax in a beautiful cafe on the premises, an experience which makes you feel you stepped into the 1920's. It takes an hour or so, its in the middle of old Prague and I doubt anyone has heard much about Cubism as a building and furniture style, so you will learn something.

The building is beautiful, a real landmark visible from the Karlov Most. The approach is less beautiful but ignore the tourist tat and head inside to a different world. A narrow entrance with a tiny shop with a few offerings and a very cheap entrance fee, up the stairs to a beautiful room overlooking the famous Vltava. Music playing and showcases of his life and works are complemented by enthusiastic staff who show you how the interactive music items work. If you like Smetana you must visit here without a doubt.

We visited on a weekday afternoon in December and had the whole theatre to ourselves. Our guide was truly passionate about the history of marionette and the artists behind this traditional heritage. We went backstage and were shown the numerous puppets used later in the evening and even had the opportunity to learn how to use them. Highly recommend to further enrich your Prague visit.
