I recently visited this attraction for the second time. It's a great place to visit to see all of the layouts of which most were working. On the large layout there was a wide range of model trains going around the various circuits. It is a wonderful layout but in certain areas, it's starting to look a bit tired and perhaps could do with a bit of a clean. This Model Railway is situated a small distance from the Car Park which is fine for most people but people who are less abled or struggle with walking would have a problem. I would certainly visit this place again.

do you have an interest in the paranormal? Do you believe objects can hold energy? Would you like to do an investigation? Do you like antiques? Do you have any spooky stories to share?? Visit the Research Center and enjoy some time with like minded friends.
This place is a absolute treasure trove for anyone with an interest in the paranormal! When we arrived we were warmly greeted and immediately made to feel at home before being given a fascinating tour of the rooms and objects by a knowledgeable team member. This isn't a dusty museum where the artefacts are locked away, we were encouraged to handle and interact with the items and feed back any experiences we had with them so the team could add it to their research, and we certainly had some things to report! We also loved being able to sit and have a cuppa and a chat in the tea room with like minded people about everything spooky and strange. If you are interested in the paranormal we highly recommend a visit - you won't be disappointed!

Here at the haunted museum we house many haunted items and oddities from around the world. Join us for restricted area tours, late night paranormal investigations, horror movies in our original 1920's cinema and much more. If all that sounds a bit too scary, just come down and enjoy our tearoom within the museum, which has a five star food rating.
Finally had the chance to visit and was not disappointed, travelled over 2 hours and was so worth it, I loved the fact we could walk around alone so we could read about each item and area at our own pace, the building itself is very eerie and the items fit in well, the chapel that holds the dybbuk box really stood out to me and I did feel a sense of somebody standing behind me, the rest of the visit was just as interesting, once we walked through the door to the main area the first thing I noticed was the architecture absolutely stunning and with it being an old cinema there is a magnificent large screen with beautiful red curtains to keep it with its time, There was so much to look at in this area everything from haunted items, oddities and horror movie props and what makes it more amazing is that some of the film props were used in the actual movies, I also love the shrunken head so interesting. The staff are so welcoming, friendly and informative And extra measures are in place for covid to keep everybody safe. I will definitely be visiting again with more friends and family. Thank you so much for all the hard work that had obviously been done to make the visit as amazing as it was.

Currently closed due lockdown - hope to be open every day from the 3rd December. Find out about the lead mining heritage of Derbyshire from Roman Times to the present. Interactive exhibits, mock tunnels and shafts to climb, moving models. The new Matlock Bath Through Time exhibition tells the story of a village that was one of the top Georgian Spas in the country. Then visit Temple Mine and find out what it was really like working underground followed by a try at gold panning. Suitable for all ages. Family ticket £28 (2A and 3C)
Due to Coronovirus we had a guided tour of the mine just to our little family. Chris, our guide, was really friendly and very knowledgeable on the mine and its operations. After the mine, we did some gold panning and all came away with a little haul of fools gold and amethyst. The museum was great with loads of information about the area and its mining history. Some interactive exhibits for the youngster's too. Its a shame covid has forced them to close the climbing tunnels but perfectly understandable. Great shop as well with loads of rocks and gems available to buy as well as books on mines and the local area. Really friendly staff topped the visit off. Would definitely recommend.

And with rooms to hire for meetings, too! Melton Mowbray may style itself the Rural Capital of Food; the museum is the key to understanding how that claim came to be made (Cattle - Cows - Milk - Stilton Cheese (& Butter) - Whey - Pigs - Pork - Pies, from pigs and local flour mills). But it also has really interesting local features on Melton's efforts in the World Wars (Defence Animals Centre, Auster aircraft, etc) and of course the inevitable history of Foxhunting in the Shire Counties. Good opening hours and helpful staff - try it. You won't be disappointed.
