The artillery fortress Heldsberg was part of the border fortifications in the Rhine Valley. Built into a rocky crest and with its four built-in guns of 7.5 cm it dominated the southern part of the Lake of Constance in the north and the bridges over the Rhine up to Montlingen in the south. Seven built-in machine guns and other infantry weapons as well as antitank guns in bunkers outside the fortification covered the approach. With galleries of 1000 m length and a height difference of 160 m, Heldsberg was one of the biggest border fortifications of Switzerland. The garrison counted 200, the one for exterior defence 400 hands. Constructed 1939 - 1941, operating until 1990, the fortress was handed over to the registered association Festungsmuseum Heldsberg in 1993.

When you enter the Dreamfactory in Degersheim, you imagine yourself in another world - or even in several. While one moment you are still amazed at the props of the great magician Harry Houdini, in the next you stroll through a small winter wonderland, before you smile at the classic cars and a toilet on wheels and finally listen to the sounds of self-playing, mechanical instruments. How many exhibits can be seen on the 3,000 square meters is difficult to say. It's best to stop by and find out for yourself.

Founded in 1878, the Textile Museum of St.Gallen houses one of Switzerland’s most important textile collections. Woven materials and embroideries from every corner of the globe, sample books, sketches and photographs: the Museum’s exhibitions bear testimony to the shifting fortunes of Swiss textiles, an industry shaped by regional pride and international influence. In addition to the permanent exhibition “Manufacturers and Manipulators”, which is dedicated to the textile history of Eastern Switzerland, the following exhibitions will be presented in 2018/19: Lace and Status The collection of historical lace in the Textilmuseum St. Gallen 26 October 2018 – 10 February 2019 Circus Knie Fashion Costumes from a hundred years in the Textilmuseum St. Gallen 7 March 2019 - 19 January 2020
This wouldn't normally been a place I'd select to visit but my partner is very much into fashion and embroidery in particular. The museum is very well set out (it has english written descriptions for each room) with not only examples of workmanship but also the machinery used. For those who are interested in more academic studies then there is an impressive library. PS Loved the cloth tickets!
