At any time you can become an eyewitness of the extraordinary mystery of nature - the exit of a butterfly from a cocoon. Also you can see some kinds of caterpillars and various pupae of butterflies. No one will remain indifferent. Photos for memory will make your visit to our butterfly house unforgettable.

My partner and I had a week in varna so we decided to check out the butterfly house. For starters the entomologist there was AMAZING. So friendly and knowledgeable. We were the only ones there so he took us through every species and explained every insect or animal that he had. He gave us so many facts and let us interact with everything. You can really tell how passionate he is about the insects and animals there and that made it so much better for us. We are both in our early 30s and had so much fun. This place is truly great for everyone of any age. Thank you again for everything!!

In the beautiful Argir Kuyumdzhioglu home is a fine array of exhibits, reflecting key aspects of Bulgarian life. An exceptionally ornate setting in the National Revival style incorporating Baroque influences makes for one of the most charming houses in the Old Town. Extensive artefacts are to be seen across crafts, agriculture, musical instruments, and more. Given the importance of Rose Oil, it features well. Musical pursuits cover instruments and also some lovely old gramophones.

I was impressed by the beautiful Balcik Palace estate. It’s very relaxing to walk in the botanical garden and admire the sea from above. If you’re in the area don’t hesitate to visit and check out Queen Marie’s favorite summer residence.

The fortress is nothing much but there is a WWII German Bunker which may be of interest to war enthusiasts. However the lady guide in the small museum makes all the difference. There is hardly any other tourist guide in Bulgaria, who will fill you in on Ruse history and fun facts. When visiting do not miss to see the video film in the museum, it will give you many ideas for various trips in the region to other archaeological remains.

Rousse Museum of History

Reviewed By fjane84 - Island of Malta, Malta

This is a well organised and explained museum containing excavated finds from ruse and the area around, from the prehistoric period to victorian times. There is a good amount of displays for prehistoric and Roman artefacts, with less on Thracian discoveries. There is also a good section on the goths and medieval times. All areas have lots of information in English and artefacts are well displayed. There are seats at regular intervals. At only 5 leva (2.50 euro) each it is well worth it, and gives a good impression of the history of the area. There are also leaflets in english to buy about the local historical sights and trinkets. The staff and very helpful and speak good English.
