Its capital is the city of Livorno. The province was formed in 1925 with land from the provinces of Pisa and Genoa. It has an area of 1,211 square kilometres (468 sq mi) and a total population of 343,003 (2012). There are 19 comuni (singular: comune) in the province. The coastline of the area is known as "Costa degli Etruschi" (Etruscan Coast).

Peaceful, except for Saturday’s and Sunday’s, cosy Cala Bianca beach and restaurant will fulfill most of your wishes: the Sun, Tyrrhenian Sea, two types of “ombrelone”, cafe, restaurant etc. I strongly recommend Cala Bianca beach.

Myself and my girlfriend booked for the spa treatment (there are several types of packages you could book ,some cheap,some a tad more expensive) well... On arrival I was incredibly impressed,the place oozes class and detail. I simply can’t explain everything...just a very special experience,friendly staff etc ... Do remember to take your own towels and flip flops as you will have to rent them if you forget (this can be pricey). I’ve been to a couple of these kind of places,all ok,but this just carries it all off...the tiny details just smack you in the face. Majestic.
