You need to get the older waiter with a mustach. His laugh is to die for. Food is excellent " Goat cheese with razzberries is amazing.

O Candil specializes in meats and grilled stone. It offers an extensive menu where you can choose from a variety of tapas, starters and main dishes that highlight our meats which are our specialty. All this accompanied by the great wines of DO Monterrei a
I went there for supper with several friends. Host attentive and friendly and the food excellent, particularly the meat section (the one I tasted). Good value, to sum up

We happened to stop by in Verin on August the 1st, 2016 while travelling from Portugal to Leon. The place is an unambitous avern, with large wooden tables, rustic decoration and a large staff of young, nervous-looking but unproffessional waiters, who were neither particularly polite nor helpful.Despite rumours on the contrary there IS a printed menu, but don´t expect to just be given one as you sit at your table, no, the female waiters would rather part with their bushy moustaches than with the printed menu. After repeated begging we eventually got it, but we had to request it to a waiter who grudgingly handed us a single copy to our entire table. Our party of 9 ordered several "raciones" of octopus, roasted potatoes, salad and veal for the kids.Octopus was not bad, but a slight dissapointment for a place that names itself "the house of the octopus", it was not as tender as some we had had that very week, a bit leathery and rubbery, heavily condimented with hot ¨pimenton¨ and definitely nothing special for this region of Spain (though better than the octopus you will normally get in tourist traps in Madrid or Barcelona), very far from the excelent octopus we had at the feria of Santiago a few days earlier .The veal was pretty unremarkable, other dishes including the mixed salad and the potatoes (cachelos, they call them) were surprisingly good and abundant. When we requested the bill we got a small piece of paper with a few apparently random handwritten numbers on it, when we requested clarification we got exactly the same thing with four euros knocked down the original price and again no explanation. The language was NOT the issue here, we all speak perfect spanish and portuguese, unlike most of the waiters that seemed to make a point of replyig in the local "gallego" language even when addressed to in castillian spanish, perpahs on the hope that the unsuspecting tourist would just give up and stop asking uncomfortable questions. We paid (the place is not expensive) but mentioned to the owner that we were unhappy about the service and left no tip. While turning her back to us the owner muttered something about us being "maleducados" unpolite visitors, which in fact guarantees that we will never be visiting again. All in all, the casa do pulpo is only worth a visit if you happen to go hungry in the vecinity of Verin, fancy having a bit of regular octpus, don´t have high expectations on service and don´t mind a bit of basic rusticity.

We were visiting during the Dia das Comadres, so the town was really busy (forget about trying to get dinner in any restaurant in town on that day, by the way, because they're all booked up!). We had lunch at Casa Zapatillas. The house wine was great, the food was nothing spectacular, though. We shared the plate of cured cheese and then each of us had brochettes of meat and fish. The place was packed during lunchtime, probably because of the day we were visiting, but it was also suggested to us by an older local man we met on the street, so it's also likely popular among locals, too.
