Things to do in Jerez de los Caballeros

The jarras of beer and summer wine are very refreshing. Aperitivos are delicious! Also the location is as close to a Plaza Major as you are going to get in this small templar village. Plaza de España fills with tables at 8pm so be sure you are parked elsewhere by 7:45 or your car will be towed.

Eat calamari tentacles on the grill and a local Bellota Pork with a fresh salad. Difficult to beat a simple lunch like this!

Lost in Extremadura, on a Boxing Monday...this lovely and rich city offers on Plaza España this ordinary café where you can ask from Jamon Ibéric (the best you can have around), fried eggplants (croquettes), revueltos de boletus (scrambled eggs with local bolets), Parmentier odf Cod (gratinated, great !) or even Plumas (wild black pork very juicy part, charcoaled)...all very simply served ...and given

Our hotel's restaurant was not open the night we spent in Jerez so we ended up coming to La Posada for dinner. We were warmly greeted (none of the staff speak English) and shown into the pretty dining room (a soaring ceiling that made us think it used to be part of a small church) and, as he had to turn the lights on, our guess was that we were the first and only diners that evening (a Wednesday). The menus were only in Spanish but it was fairly easy to determine what was on offer. The croquette appetizer was very good but the portion massive - seven large pieces which could have stood on its on as an entree. My main course - the lamb "empanada" - was not was I was expecting. It was comprised of small lamb chops which were breaded then deep fried. It was different but not that great. One of the other entrees our table had was the shrimp - they were excellent but you had to peel each one making it a real chore, There was a decent selection of wine and the service was good. All in all it was a pleasant dining experience.
