It had to happen,. On our third night in Spain, driving from Bilbao to The Algarve, we stopped at Hotel Real. The Hotel wasn't bad and is reviewed separately, but I really should have read the reviews of EI Castillo, before we decided to eat there. We were first in at bang on 2030 hrs, so the kitchen can't have been under pressure. We kept the order simple, I had the Menu Degustacion at â¬24 and Myriam had the menu for the 25th Anniversary of the registration of the type of bean known as judiones de Barco de Avila. I won't go into all the mistakes with ordering and production of the food, enough to say it was a catalogue of errors, poor quality food, poorly cooked and served half warm on cold plates. The meat was tough and poorly butchered, and the food was all over salted. It is strange that despite growing reduction in Europe in the use of salt, in this restaurant the heavy handed chef decided how much salt you should have, and there was no table salt. Not a good experience,

Nos ha llevado Juan que se come casi cualquier cosa... para empezar eramos 3 y yo no tenÃa pan. Hemos pedido menú, unas lentejas que poco más se salÃan del plato ( mientras el camarero metÃa su uña dentro), una coliflor gratinada un poco sosa (le faltaba queso y sobraba patata cocida) y unos jamoncitos de pollo que hemos dejado casi enteros (otra vez con patata cocida). Postre casero decente y cafés. No tenÃan puesta la calefacción, hacia mas frÃo que fuera. Los camareros han hecho casting.. a cada cual más âespecialâ.

Camarero super hot and so nice gave us the best night in Spain!! We were in a road trip from Latvia and the barman made us live the best night in our entire life! Emerald Nights, nothing like that in the mediterranean area! Dont miss "Elixir anti-zorras" - "No-Bitch Cocktail", Just like Heaven!Ask for Vic Diesel.

It's very simple food but very tasty. The beans were fantastic and I had the lamb chops which were great. Unfortunately they had run out of most of the menu items by the time we got there (quite late), so we didn't get to try the beef that Avila is so famous for. Recommendable for cheap simple food. The service is lovely too.

WARM "HYPOCRITE" WELCOME. THEY SMILE WHEN YOU ENTER AND THEY NAIL YOU WHEN YOU GET THE BILL.the daily menu is with water and wine included but once you sit down they ask you want you want to drink. so we ordered "agua con gas" and a glass of white wine supposing this was part of the menu. at that moment the waitress didn't mention that our order was out of that menu. at the spanish tables they brought immediately a big bottle of water and a caraf of wine. when we got the bill we realised that they had ripped us with the drinks (a 4,20 euro extra). when we asked Maria del Carme for explication telling her that the waitress at least could give us the correct information she ignored our question telling us we had to pay the bill like it was. so we did and at that moment we realised that it is a well considered strategy to ripp of foreign tourists. the food itself was very mediocre and there are much more better places to eat in Barco than in that cheathole.Usted leyó y nos hizo entender que habÃa leido perfectamente el menú qué nosotros le presentamos en inglés, por ello debió comprender que el agua es mineral sin gas y el vino qué incluye es el de la casa, no un vino con denominación de origen, asà se le explicó y usted dijo haberlo entendido. El menú tiene un precio de 10 euros por un primer plato, un segundo, un postre y agua mineral sin gas o vino de la casa. ¿Dónde está el engaño? En lo qué usted cree leer y que dicho sea de paso viene a mi paÃs y que mi idioma es el español, yo no tengo porque saber inglés aún asà intentamos ayudarle a qué entienda lo que pide. Gracias por su opinión.

Luckily when we arrived in Barco de Avila around 1 p.m. we went straight to the restaurant and reserved a table for later, as it did fill up quite quickly. The waitresses were very nice and served quickly. The food was excellent.

On the busiest weekend of the year we were made to feel comfortable and welcome with excellent service all afternoon. Amazing food, great views and kids loved it. We particularly enjoyed the mixture of classic and modern cooking. Highly recommended for any families and big groups.
