Just returned from the most wonderful Tapas lunch at this very unassuming, but tastefully decorated, tapas restaurant in the heart of San Fernando...The staff were impeccable and extremely friendly...We were seated immediately, given our menus and drinks order taken...We were so impressed with the menu to begin with, then came the first of our dishes the Pate de Carabineros...Oh my word what a treat, comes in a small jar with crackers and it was indeed cracking! Fantastic flavours and a wow...We also ordered the Takita of Tuna which was cooked to perfection, seared perfectly with a hint of sesame and on a bed of a fine seaweed and an incredibly light sauce, just beautiful...Next we had the Pulpo (octopus) again melt in the mouth (very difficult to achieve indeed) on a bed of patatas bravas...alongside this we also had the nicest lamb stew served with shiitake mushrooms and a cream and basil sauce...All portions were perfectly sized for two to share..We ended our feast with the Chocolate and Walnut Brownie on slices of Plantain with a gorgeous chocolate sauce and a light chocolate ice cream...Incredibly well priced at 65 euros for two with drinks...You can't be vexed with that...we will be visiting again in the next few days, it was such a treat!!

As "foodies" we were very disappointed in the restaurants in this area until we discovered Viavai. We went back four times and no matter what we ordered the food was always excellent. Some of the dishes we ate were duck breast with a gold bonbon of fois gras and blood orange and caviar, sea bass with squid, noodles and green garlic mayonaise and warm shrimp capaccio with garlic. The wines chosen by the chef and his wife were also of a high standard and at reasonable prices and as far as the service at this delightful restauant/bar, it was perfect with the wife working front of house.

Pepefusion

We've been to this place several times before, first when it was La Pampa, an Argentinian restaurant, and then when it changed hands and became Pepe Fusion. We weren't impressed with the latter and didn't go back. Well, it's changed hands again and Pepe has been joined by Milan, well-known from his time at a number of different restaurants in the area. El Caserio and Mar y Monte are the best known. I have submitted a number of reviews on them. Milan is an expert procurer of excellent meat from different parts of the country which he then cooks on a barbecue fired with different types of wood, while also acting as host when not too busy. Wherever he has been, he has left his mark on the menu, not just by designing it with a very similar appearance but, more importantly, choosing the dishes. These are now probably quite different from those offered by PepeFusion. Very good meat and lots of fresh vegetables are the most notable ingredients. Don't get me wrong: this is not, or not yet, a place for vegetarians. My son and I sampled some mussels cooked in a very tasty sauce, before sharing a chuletón ( a beef chop) from a cow that once lived in the north of Spain. Both very good! The restaurant has now changed its name to incorporate Mar y Monte. This is Milan's trade name. Maybe someone will be able to have the name changed on Trip Advisor but I'm not confident that will happen any time soon, based on my past experience. Go there, you'll have a good meal in pleasant surroundings with good service.

Nice little tapas restaurant. We spoke no Spanish, they spoke no English, we forgot the guide book with food/menu translations in it, so picked out a few choices and waited to see what turned up. It was all nice, even the Croquetas Mysteriosas! The gentleman dealing with us was very friendly and patient, and I like to think we gave him little trouble either, all added up to what turned out to be an enjoyable evening.

This restaurant is by far the best place we have eaten at during our 2 week holiday. We ate a late lunch today and ordered 2 salads, one with a spicy beef and the second with lobster and prawns. We have been trying to find a really tasty meal since we arrived and while we have had nice food it has always fallen slightly short on flavour. Not today! My salad consisted of a lot of various leaves in a citrus dressing. Amongst it there were tiny cubes of mango and red pepper which were fresh and tasty. There were thin slivers of raw lobster and a shredded cooked lobster over the top. There were also some juicy prawns throughout. My husband’s beef dish was spicy and served with watercress and plenty of peanuts. The bread was fresh and came with a small pot of vegetables in oil - delicious. We ordered desserts too - I had a pot of white chocolate yogurt and raspberries with a biscuit crumb and hubby had a chocolate brownie type dessert with ice-cream and garnish. My dessert was so light I ate the lot, as did the other half. With soft drinks and coffee the bill came to €56 and it was worth every penny. The restaurant itself is well set up and the staff were uber efficient. It is situated on the beach so the views are stunning but it was freezing cold due to the wind. Not a problem though as they gave out blankets to anyone who needed them.I would definitely recommend eating here.We greatly appreciate your comment and we are glad that you enjoyed our menu, having had a nice experience. We hope to see you soon and enjoy another great day with us.

Latascona

Reviewed By Gail T

We have been in Spain for nine days so far, including Seville and Cadiz where the meals were wonderful. However, the absolute best meal we've had, thus far, in Spain, was at Latascona in San Fernando, Spain. The food was not only fresh, but prepared in a creative manner adding a touch of unexpected spices and sauces. Everything was light and flavorful. The service was excellent as was the wine selection. The decor was minimalistic but warm, blond wood tables, open, inviting and casual. This restaurant can compete with any we've experienced in a lot of travel as well as in the big cities of the US. Bravo! San Fernando is somewhat off the beaten track and not reviewed in all the guidebooks but it is worth a visit when in the area of Cadiz and first stop must be Latascona.

The food was presented excellently. All dishes were very reasonably priced and there was a good range of local beers and wines stocked. Looking forward to our next visit.
