We booked a tour with Cozumel Activities, our driver was Hugo Mendez. It was easy to book the tour and we asked to see the Mayan Ruins at San Gervasio, try some chocolate tasting, and to visit a beach for some time there. Hugo met us at the cruise terminal – initially it was a bit confusing as there were so many people but we managed to find each other and get started on the tour. Hugo took us around some of San Miguel town initially and then to San Gervasio ruins. It costs about $8 each to visit, you pay $5 in the first entrance (which is the government fee) and then $3 in the next entrance (which goes to the tour companies). You can do the ruins on your own but as we had limited time, we hired an official guide for $20 to take us to the key sights and I felt this was worth it. The ruins are spread out over a wide area of jungle. Take insect repellent. You will also see iguanas and other wildlife. It was interesting but not as spectacular as Chichen Itza so be aware of that. After we left the ruins, we were taken to a tourist centre to try some chocolate, but there was also tequila, tacos, some info about the Mayan culture, how tequila is made and shopping. It was a bit touristy, lots of opportunity to spend money or give tips, but it was generally OK and we enjoyed the tequila tasting but limits on liquids when flying meant we couldn’t buy any. After this stop, we went to Buccanos Beach Club, which was $20 each for loungers/showers/beach/pool/restaurant and bar etc. It was reasonable and a nice beachfront but fairly busy. After this, we were driven back to the ship. Hugo is very friendly, professional, polite and drives carefully, he is obviously very proud of his Mayan heritage and his island. The bus was comfy and well equipped with a cooler of iced water which is a nice touch. Cozumel is a nice place to visit but be aware that tips are expected everywhere and tourism is a key industry here so it might feel a bit overwhelming if you’re not used to that. In summary we enjoyed our personalised tour and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Cozumel Activities. Thankyou Hugo for a great day.

We did the private jeep tour and Miguel was our guide. There were four of us.We had our own jeep and followed Miquel. We were met at our hotel and started our trip. First stop was the tequila tasting. Did not know about the flavored tequila's. We purchased several bottles. We then made a few stops on the east side and stopped at Miami. The drinks, snacks and view were fabulous. After a few more stops we went to Punta Sur. The veach was gorgeous. The food was fantastic. While the others got in the water, I stayed in the restaurant area and had a good visit with Miguel. We enjoyed the trip very much and would definitely do it again. We would request Miguel as our guide.

There are 2 parts to this review, before, and during/after. Before: on the way to Cozumel the ferry dropped my wheelchair seat into the sea and were not able to recover it. They tried to deny responsibility, but the trip organizer, Nelly showed up and saved the day. Despite having NO responsibility for this, Nelly became our interpreter/representative with the ferry company. She sent us on our way to relax and have a good experience and she stayed and did the negotiation with the company. By the time our trip was over, I had a phone call from Nelly explaining the email that was already in my inbox and reviewing what it said. She explained what I needed to do to get my refund: what I needed to write, who I needed to send it to, and what documentation was needed. During and after: I was still pretty shaken from the way we had been treated by the ferry company during out taxi ride to the marina. Within 10 minutes of meeting Luis and Francisco, our boat driver and guides, we were all feeling better. These two men are amazing: funny, caring, dedicated to our comfort. I cannot say enough about their help - I am partially paralyzed and they made it possible for me to snorkel by getting me back into the boat after swimming; I am a large woman, so this was no small feat! Finally, there was the hospitality. We had plenty to eat and drink, but I have to mention how wonderful the food was that Luis prepared. Luis is a chef. We had an amazing fresh tuna with onions and olives cooked in soy sauce, prawn and fish ceviche, whitefish and mango ceviche, tuna and crackers, chips and guacamole, and fresh fruit. Since it was just my dad, my sister, and myself, we did not come close to finishing this gourmet spread, but it was so delicious that we had to try! You cannot go wrong by booking this trip. I hope to do it again soon. My dad loved it so much that he hopes to do it with whichever guests visit him at his time-share in Playa del Carmen. He already has his next visit planned for this August!
