The name refers to Chief Moremi of the BaTawan tribe. Moremi is the only protected area of the Okavango Delta. It holds tremendous scientific, environmental and conservation importance. It ranks as one of the most beautiful reserves in Africa, possibly in the world. Situated in the central and eastern areas of the Okavango Delta, the reserve includes the Moremi Tongue and Chiefs Island, boasting one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems on the continent. Spectacular game viewing and birds watching, include all major naturally occurring herbivores and carnivore species on the region.

Large spanning decks are nestled and spread out between majestic acacia tress and the unmistakable “Mogotse” bush resembling the horns of a Gemsbok are customary to the Lodge’s ambience. Unlimited access to the the Boteti River either by simply enjoying a refreshing drink and viewing the hippo, crocodiles or abundant birdlife or by a guided Mokoro (Traditional dug out canoe) or Motorboat cruise down the river. Although spread over a massive area the lodge is small and intimate allowing for a personalized experience for all guests and enhanced by skilled staff to attend to your every need. The remote location is situated away from all man made distractions allowing one to truly submerge themselves into the splendor of pristine and untouched natural surroundings.

With three extra days in Namibia, I decided to include a quick trip to Etosha. I struggled to find a company that was still operational, and met my needs. In October 2019 my wife and I did a 3 day (2 nights) Mokoro tour with Shipungo Safari & Tours in the Okavango Delta. Starting with the excellent organization, our experienced poler and guide with whom we had amazing experiences on our tours and the camp staff who i.a. prepared great food for us, we were very satisfied. We were also lucky not to have to share the camp with any other fellow travellers (in contrast to other tour operators who do such tours with 20 people). We would book again via Shipungo at any time and can highly recommend the company.

Enjoyed a full day art and craft tour with these 2 American students, we visited Phuthadikobo museum in Mochudi, Oodi Weavers in Oodi, Botswana Craft in Gaborone, Gabane Pottery in Gabane, Mma Sechele Monument in Manyana and Dr David Livingstones Tree in Manyana.
