One of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok features the famous Reclining Buddha, which is the largest in Thailand measuring more than 150 feet in length.
Most of the tour groups are taken directly to the Reclining Buddha and, yes, it is impressive and well worth seeing. However, the temple complex is extensive with lots of stupas, huge statues, little rockeries and tinkling fountains and by exploring more widely you will find shady corners for peace and contemplation. My favourite out of the 3 main places to visit in that part of Bangkok.

This temple is considered to be the most famous and photographed temple in Bangkok, which features a soaring 70-meter-high spire decorated with tiny pieces of colored glass and Chinese porcelain.
Would recommend to visit the Wat Arun, took a boat ride to the temple from Saphan Taksin BTS station, very convenient to access, you can also rent traditional costume there, the temple is beautiful, it was a wonderful experience.

One of the world’s largest outdoor museums features a 200-acre city with 109 scaled-down copies of Thailand’s most famous monuments and architectural attractions.
Samut Prakan is located around 40km south east of Bangkok and it is a nice place for one day trip. The Muang Boran Ancient City is a place we must visit in this area. It is a very big museum park occupying over 200 acres in the shape of Thailand. The museum features more than 100 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. These monuments are built and located geographically following the shape of Thailand. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down. Since the park is too big to be covered by foot, it is advisable to rent the buggy which can carry 4 persons. We can operate the buggy on our own and we took 4 hours to cover the museum. For a more detail viewing of the museum may take up to 6 hours. There are many beatiful structures in nice surroundings for photography. Other places of interest that can be included in this day trip are the nice Wat Asokaram (temple), watching many sea gulls at Bangpu Recreation Centre, the huge reclining Buddha of Wat Bang Phli Yai Klang and the giant three headed elephant statue at Erawan Museum.

Built about 600 years ago, this impressive temple once housed the precious Emerald Buddha.
A must-see when visiting Chiang Mai old city, part of an historic temple complex, this impressive ancient temple was built around 14th century, originally 82 metres high with much of it collapsing after an earthquake.

This temple was built in 1345 under King Phayu, the fifth king of the Mangrai dynasty.
It's easy to visit many of these temples dotted around when walking around the old city of Chiang Mai, the architecture here is stunning and well worth a visit.

The Sanctuary of Truth is a gigantic wooden construction which covers the area of more than two rais. The top point of the building is about 105 meters high. It was constructed to withstand the wind and sunshine on the seashore at Rachvate Cape, Tumbon Naklea, Amphur Banglamung, Chon Buri Province.

This 12th-century temple is similar in structure to Angkor Wat.
Not as big as Ayutthaya or Sukhotai, but well worth a visit. The temple is just stunning! Phimai was an outpost of the Khmer empire and that is why the temple was built in Khmer architecture. Also, I learned there that Angkor Wat was inspired by this temple in Phimai! How very cool! Recommend visiting at any time, especially in the late afternoon as there are fewer tourists. Also, worth stopping and having a walk around Phimai, it is rather cute itself.

This temple complex not only serves as a religious site for the monks who live and worship there, but also features a maze of natural caves in an overgrown jungle valley where stone tools, pottery remains and the mold for making Buddha footprints have been excavated.
What a physical exercise that ended with stunning views at the top of tiger cave mountain. About 1260 steep steps, equivalent of 300m height or 600m walk, this activity is definitely recommended for those who are looking for strenuous activity in Krabi. Definitely recommend but be ready for sweaty evening. Start at 5pm and be there by 6pm to get a clear sunset view. Carry plenty of water to stay hydrated but you will get filtered cold water tap at the top of the hill. People bring drones as well for a clear sky experience. We thoroughly enjoyed this and would do it again next time we are in Krabi.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ayutthaya Historical Park incorporates over a dozen ancient temple sites.
Ancient capital of Thailand, an hour and half north of Bangkok,five- six centuries old monuments and temples spread across a three square km Historic City, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site..one would feel he/she boarded a time machine and stepped into a bygone era..it is beautiful, it is aesthetic, it is history and it is a story of sweat and, often, blood !!

If you have the time and will go there for one of the best sunsets on the island. If you are driving get there early as the big tourist buses go there as well so it gets more packed closer to sunset time. Enjoy !
