Songshan Ciyou Temple

Reviewed By fali84 - India, null

This is a beautiful and underrated temple! Right next to one of the gates of the Raohe Night Market, it looks beautifully lit at night and it equally enjoyable during the day time. The temple has stairs to access the multiple stories. I heavily recommend going up those, the view gets better and better and you get to see the artistry at each floor. Intricately carved, in a mtitude of colours and heavy detailing - thia temple is a delight. No entry fee, you can buy some offerings, use the praying wooden blocks for free (Ofcourse!).

Rainbow Bridge

Reviewed By Larry-Calif - San Francisco, United States

After researching the Internet photos, studying earth maps, and finding the location of the “LOVE” sign, we decided to include this spot as part of our group tour. The 6-feet high “LOVE” is located in front of the Rainbow Bridge (pedestrian) spanning the Keelung River. It is less than 4-minute walk from front entrance of the Raohe Street Night Market. After taking over 1,300 photos on our 13-day trip through Taiwan, the favorite photograph was the one of our group standing at the “LOVE” sign with the changing multi-colored Rainbow Bridge in the background in the warm evening. Coming halfway around the world from San Francisco, we stand next to the LOVE BRIDGE ... at the Rainbow Bridge.

Ciyou Temple

Reviewed By Larry-Calif - San Francisco, United States

The Ciyou Temple, a folk temple, was built in 1753 and dedicated to the Mazu, the goddess of the sea. The temple was built by a wandering Taoist monk who was carrying a gilded image of Mazu came upon a group of people who were followers of Mazu. Together they raised money for many years and then built the temple to honor the goddess. Construction began in 1753 and was completed in 1757. The 18th-century temple has six floors and around 100 different deities. Initially, the shrine faced the waterfront where the goddess was believed to protect the fishermen and sailors. It has been reconstructed 7 times. Today the temple faces the street so that everyone can appreciate its beauty. The triple-tiered roof ridge is very detailed with some amazing sculptures. The top of the temple roof has beautiful twin flying ceramic dragons facing three immortals symbolizing wealth, happiness and longevity. The dragons are thought to have the power to prevent fire. The lifelike stone lions at the main gate were carved in 1803 with open mouth male lion and closed mouth female lion. The roof was decorated with many figures from historical tales. The temple is a perfect example of authentic Chinese architecture. The Ciyou Temple is a prominent landmark with all lights on at night. The temple is located at the east end of the Raohe Street Night Market. It is worth seeing. The temple is within walking distance of the Songshan Station. As we exited the station we saw the Ciyou Temple standing next to the night market. Just standing in the temple, I felt the MANY BLESSING ... at the Ciyou Temple.

Xikou Rainbow Wharf

The Songshan area was referred to as Xikou during the reign of Emperor Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. Located on Songhe Street near Water Gate No. 4, the Xikou Ferry had long been a trade/distribution center for commodities from across the island and, in its heyday, a port that inspired the development of Xikou culture in Songshan. In an attempt to extend the Blue Highway route, Taipei City Government completed the construction of Xikou Pier on December 15, 2009, restoring the overall scenic beauty to the adjacent embankment and waterfront footpath, with an additional pedestrian footpath that connects Xikou Pier and Keelung Evacuation Gate No. 4. Among the distinctive attractions in the neighborhood, the Rainbow Bridge, Songshan Ciyou Temple and Raohe Tourist Night Market offer cuisines and various entertainments that redefines Xikou Pier as an emerging tourist high spot.

Songshan Station

Reviewed By 619jeffry - Essendon, Australia

Songshan Station is on the MRT Wenhu (Brown) Line, it also a Taiwan Railways Station. It is a gateway to Taipei's Songshan Airport, which is an active medium-sized international airport. With typical Taiwan inventiveness, the underground tunnel has been turned into a busy shopping mall. As shopping is a typical recreation for many Taiwan young women, this is a smart move.
