Be sure to visit the Passo Sella for beautiful access to the outstandingly scenic Naturonda hike and the excellent Comici Hut. The Passo Sella is a short drive up a steep, twisting, and narrow mountain road from the village of Selva di Val Gardena in the Dolomites of Italy. From the top of the Pass, which sits at roughly 2,200 meters, inviting hikes radiate in different directions. A perennial favorite hike is the Naturonda that begins a short walk from the pass and ends at the not-to-be-missed Comici Hut, which may be the nicest rifugio, or mountain restaurant, in the Dolomites. The Comici hut offers delicious food and friendly service. If nature calls, its bathroom will astonish you. The Naturonda is a relatively easy loop hike that takes about two-hours to complete. A narrower and well-marked trail that begins in a maze-like rock garden takes you to the Comici Hut while a wider, path returns you to the parking lot at the Pass and your car. Though the Naturonda may lack difficulty and length for the serious hiker, it is an extraordinarily beautiful hike with spectacular, high alpine scenery. For the more adventurous, there are ways to prolong the pleasure of being in this magical area by extending the hike. Buon Viaggio.

64% inclination, so you hope the technology is dependable. And to your relief: the design and construction comes from Swiss engineer, Emil Strub. Opened in 1903, the Mendelbahn is regarded as the first electric powered cable car in Tyrol and is the steepest and longest continous cable car in Europe. A trip up the Mendel mountain is already an adventure in itself. And then, there's the impressive panorama of the Etsch river valley and the South Tyrolean Unterland!Technical data: course lenght: 2,37 kilometers, travel time: 12 minutes, altitude variance: 850 meters.

The Col Raiser cable car is the perfect starting point for numerous leisure activities in the Dolomiti Superski area and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites Our cable railway will bring you easily to Val Gardena's most beautiful pasture. At the summit of the station a breathtaking panorama is waiting for you: the Geisler Peaks, Stevia and the Sella Group, the mountain group of Sassolungo with the Molignon and the Sciliar, as well as the mountain of Pic - a 360° view par excellence! Summer: A variety of excursions start from our station at the top, leading across green alpine meadows with a fantastic flora (alpine roses, gentians, edelweiss...) and small mountain lakes, as well as climbing routes and metallic fixed rope climbing tours. Winter: The winter offers fantastic ski runs and a direct connection with the Sellaronda, as well as the possibility of a ski descent to Ortisei.

Runkelstein Castle lies on a porphyr rock and overlooks the city of Bolzano. Its construction began in the year 1237 by order of the nobles Friedrich and Beral von Wangen. However, its moment of glory was the year 1385, when the castle was acquired by the bourgeois brothers Franz and Niklaus Vintler. Up to the present day Runkelstein Castle hosts the largest cycle of secular medieval frescoes.
The free shuttle bus from Piazza Walther whisks you straight here. 10 minute uphill walk from the car park and you're back in the 13th century ! Entrance is 8 euros but included with the Alto Adige/Sud Tirol Museumobil Card (also covers return train from Trento). Stunning inside and out with great descriptors of those famous medieval frescoes. The exhibition on Maximilian the First (until Jan'20) is outstanding. There's an original 'Weisskunig' novel on display plus 'The Book of Heroes'. Add, wonderful prints of this famous Habsburg, coinage showing just what a self image promoter he was and the famous Maximilian Armour. Brilliant curation ! Lovely coffee/snacks in the atmospheric courtyard and the great staff at the desk arranged the return shuttle. Perfect Saturday at Runkelstein.

Opening hours of Castle Tyrol: from 15th March to 8th December 2019 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Mondays.
We could see this castle from our hotel at night so we decided to check it out. The road to the West of it, from Lagundo, was very fun and scenic on our motorcycle and we were able to park right at the front door although that may be very hard to do with a car. The castle has been partially restored and was done very well. It still feels and looks like it would have 100's of years ago. It's a self guided tour, which we prefer, with good signage and descriptions throughout the castle although some weren't available in English. Also, the views from the castle are amazing.

Alta val venosta . Resia
Car park gets busy just opposite the bell tower. It’s good for about 1-2 hours, walk up to the church for a nice view. Cafeteria across the road is very reasonable with very clean toilets, cash only.
