What an interesting museum this is! Built in the fifties and made redundant a few decades later, still is of importance for the cold war period. The history of the space, cut out into the hill, gives a great impression of both sides of that period. When we visited in December, there was an exhibition about the Berlin Wall. All in all, great place to visit. Please be aware to first buy your 4 euro ticket in Kemmel at the tourist info building. That’s 1 km from the site.

I visited Bayernwald German trech system on my trip throughout the battlefields of Belguim and France. It was really interesting to discover the differences between how the British and German armies built and used their trench systems. While there, I explored the trench system and was able to look in the German bunkers too. I would definitely advise walking shoes, as the ground was muddy and also slippery (the bottom of the trenches were made out of wood).
