The Sky Pond sits at an elevation of 2,600m above sea level. It is 0.4ha in area. This is an alpine lake, and there is a chance to enjoy snowy scenery when cold spells strike in winter. The Rueisyue Gazebo beside the pool gives this place a unique landscape, and a romantic vantage point from which to watch majestic seas of clouds rolling in.

Fushoushan Farm (福壽山農場) is located in Hoping District (和平區), Taichung, Taiwan. It is 175 km (109 mi) from Taipei Station by car and takes around 3.5 to 4 hours. Fushoushan Farm is situated between Central Mountain Range (中央山脈) and Xueshan Range (雪山山脈) at altitude between 2,100 - 2,614 m (6,890 – 8,576 ft). It is surrounded by mountains with a picturesque surroundings view of the nature. The farm has a number of temperate fruits, mountain vegetables and flowers. Fushou Everspring Tea (福壽長春茶) is the prime tea in Taiwan, and fruit such as honey apples, peaches, and pears are very popular in Taiwan. It is hard to believe that we visited Fushoushan Farm over 36 years ago when we had our honeymoon. All we remembered was we needed to clean the car’s plugs in order to climb the steep slope to the farm. Today it is very different; the paved road is well maintained. The best part of the road was when we drove near the farm. The road is divided by tall old trees, and we felt cool even we drove in the sunny day. It is a 6.8 km drive with some narrow sections that require caution. Once we arrived at the gate and paid the fee, we parked in the nearby parking lots. It was not a holiday, so we really enjoyed the relaxing environment during our visit. It took us about 2 hours to wander around the entire farm. We went to the visitor center first and got a map for the farm and nearby attractions. We planned to visit the farm near the visitor center and Tianchi (天池). It took us about 2 hours in the farm near the visitor center to discover the beautiful flowers on the trails, Mandarin Duck Lake (鴛鴦湖), Fruit Trees Observation Area, Chieshou Pine (介壽松) and other attractions. The month we visited is the blooming season of the amazing Lupinus (魯冰花) in white, red, purple & pink. The flowers and pine trees with the beautiful mountain range in the background is very picturesque. After lunch, we drove another 7 km (4.35 mi) to the Tianchi. We stopped at Jing Guan Pavilion (靜觀停) to take photos of the mountain range with the Fushoushan Farm down on the valley on our way to Tianchi. The parking lot had only one car there. Therefore we almost owned the entire site. We followed the wooden trails along the edge of the cliff to the pond and saw the two-story green Daguan Pavilion (達觀亭). It was where the late president Chiang Kai-shek cultivated his mind and thought about state affairs. I really love this pavilion not because it is well-maintain, but because of the simple decoration and functional setup. The 2nd floor with its windows on all four sides integrate it into the surrounding woods. The road between Wuling Farm (武陵農場) and Fushoushan Farm is challenging because this 2-way traffic road is in the mountain, and sometimes you need to give way to the opposite cars. Be sure to bring a light coat with you even in the summer because you are in the high altitude mountain. Comfortable sneakers are highly recommended. Of course, do not forget your camera.

YaKou Viewing Platform is located at 48K of Daxueshan Forest Road. There is a three-story concrete observation deck on the trail, which is about 2,600 meters above sea level. It is the best place to enjoy the sunrise at Alishan. It offers a wide panorama, and has no dead corners. Not only will you have the chance to see the flaming sun rising out of the distant mountains, but from here you can even see all three major Taiwan mountain ranges at once (Central Mountain Range, Yushan Mountain Range, and the Alishan Mountain Range). On a clear day, you can even see the summit of Yushan (Mt. Jade), the highest peak in Taiwan.
