Merabu Village is located in Berau District. The village next to the Karst rocky mountains offers you the experience to see first hand the condition of the forest that is still awake. Uniquely is the Karst Forest that holds so many mysteries from the Lake without foundation, Caves with prehistoric relics, hollow mountain views, and much more.
We spent five wonderful days at Merabu. Years ago the village decided to keep their forest and, as a village, open up to tourisme. It’s an inspiring story which gives hope for the future of North Kalimantan and how developoment and conservation can go hand in hand. We spent 4 nights in the villages in a homestay and two nights in the jungle, one at Njadeng Lake and another and Beloyot caves. Two placese of amazing beauty in the middle of the forest. Being taken to these places by guides from the village felt like a gift and and made us grateful that people of Merabur shared their forest with us for these days. This is an adventurous, unforgettable and inspiring place to visits – one of the best things we did during our trip.
