Bad Ischl [baːt ˈɪʃl̩] is a spa town in Austria. It lies in the southern part of Upper Austria, at the Traun River in the centre of the Salzkammergut region. The town consists of the Katastralgemeinden Ahorn, Bad Ischl, Haiden, Jainzen, Kaltenbach, Lauffen, Lindau, Pfandl, Perneck, Reiterndorf and Rettenbach. It is connected to the village of Strobl by the river Ischl, which drains from the Wolfgangsee, and to the Traunsee, into which the stream empties.

Since 1959, Katrin cable car has brought a range of visitors to the summit. Enjoy a charming 15-minute drive to more than 1,400 m above sea level with spectacular views! We caught the cable car to the top of Katrin. 50€ for a family of 4 return with the ‘winter card’ (free from hotel as we are staying in Bad Ischl for more than 3 days). There was SO much snow, we were there for about 4 hours playing in the snow, there are 2 restaurants. The restaurant at the top loans sleds which our 6 and 7 year olds loved. There are hiking paths if you like hiking in the snow. The cable cars leave continuously. We caught a cab from our hotel as we were in all our snow gear was 10€ each way, no Uber in Bad Ischl. Had a fantastic day!

The Kaiser called this place as a piece of paradise. He was right. Very beautiful grounds, surrounding park and clean refreshing air. It could be better maintained, and is certainly worth it. Also, I don't really see the point of not allowing visitors to take photos inside the Villa. It is worth visiting and re-visiting.
