We drove this 24 km. scenic route on the north side of les Gorges de Verdon early one weekday morning in the first week of June. One way traffic from the starting point just east of La Palud-sur-Verdon all the way to Chalet de la Maline where the road operates in both direction for about 10 km back to La Palud. Breathtaking views from 14 belvédères along the way, including Col. d’Illoire which also has a few picnic tables in the glades on the downhill side of the roadway across a small wooden bridge. At the summit (where it was just 12 degrees Celsius at 10 o’clock in the morning!), we saw a chamois at the side of the road and vautours circling in the air currents overhead.

While you visit the Moustiers town, it's worth to walk up to cathedral on top to see magnificent from the above. It's not a difficult route but not recommended for someone has heart problem for this walk. Make sure you bring water, hat and comfortable shoes with you. The view is all worth of the hike.

Visited the Citadel in july and it was very hit but up on-top of the citadel was a pleasant breeze as-well as stunning views for miles! You can see why the medieval french decided to place the citadel here, its the perfect vantage-point over the surrounding valleys and the river. The construction and the cool features is very interesting to see, all the small rifle/arrow holes overlooking different parts of the climb to the citadel just makes you astonished by the engineering feat and detailed planning the old people had when constructing fortresses like this.
