On a brief visit to Canterbury, I had to go to the Whitefriars Shopping Centre. I was very surprised that the bus station was right beside the centre. Instead of being a ginormous covered, glitzy and impersonal centre, it felt more like casually strolling around a cobbled village. All the normal shops were there, and many fooderies and coffee shops to relax over a coffee or a meal. I had a wonderful coffee at Costa, along with a delicious toasted turkey sandwich with all the trimmings. Workmen were erecting little wooden stalls for what seemed to be a Christmas Market. No-one was rushing or bumping into you. Everyone was smiling and enjoying their day out. I wish all shopping centres were as enjoyable as this one.

Hempstead Valley, Gillingham, is located just off J4 of M2. There are over 50 retailers at the centre including M&S, Sainsbury's, Pandora, TK Maxx, Argos, Wallis and Boots. The Venue is home to a new dining experience with Nando's, Frankie & Benny's, Bella Italia, Friendly Phil's, Costa Coffee and Subway. Parking is free for up to 6 hours and the centre is open late weekdays. Hempstead Valley was the first out of town shopping centre to be built in the South East.
Free parking, nice clean modern environment with lots of different shops. Indoors and warm away from the cold weather. Wheelchair friendly. Nice costa coffee in the middle

Came here during the latest lockdown in order to browse the Christmas section. There was a great variety of Christmas stock and reasonably priced. Ended up buying loads of stuff. The farm shop at the end is also lovely. In terms of safety there are social distancing measures in place and a one way system. They also take your temperature on the way in. Also have an outside takeaway service on hot drinks which was nice. Loved Polhill and will definitely be back. Couldn’t fault it. I went to nearby ruxley garden centre the day after, and I must say polhill is so much better (in terms of the Christmas section variety, prices, staff members and safety measures in place).
