Brazil's former capital is renowned for its African-influenced cuisine, music and architecture. Known as "the Capital of Joy," because of its exuberant week-long Carnaval celebrations, Salvador brims with contemporary music and art amid architecture that has gone untouched since the 17th century.

Bookshop café in the heart of the historic Barra district of Salvador. Here you'll find contemporary fiction and poetry and art from Brazil and beyond, books and literary journals in English, french, Spanish, Swedish and other languages. And in the café: coffee, tea, fresh juices, wine, beer, cakes and snacks, and on sundays the "bookshop brunch".

Salvador is a historic city and has many places to visit. If you want to know a little about Salvador's history, you can visit the Pelourinho or if you like beach, you can visit Flamengo beach. But if you like to buy many things or to watch movies, you can visit a mall. My favorite is Salvador Mall, built in 2007 and expanded in 2009. After expansion work, Salvador Mall has become the largest in the state of Bahia. It has many stores and some movie theaters. I like this place because it's clean, well illuminated and well ar conditioned. Salvador Mall is the ideal place if you didn't plan anything for your weekend or to visit some day.
