A gorgeous spot that’s a convenient day trip from Milan, Lake Como recently earned fame as home to Hollywood star George Clooney. But celeb-spotting aside, it’s known for jaw-dropping natural beauty, elegant old villas—and the scenic towns surrounding the lake. Check out Varenna, Bellagio, and Menaggio, which offer great views, historic churches, and water-based activities such as ferries and passenger-only boats.

OPEN FROM MARCH TO THE END OF OCTOBER. Raku is a Japanese technique, born in the sixteenth century A.D. to create bowls for the tea ceremony that could seem ancient. This particular technique produces a variety of unique results. The working process combines all the natural Elements: Earth, Water, Air, Fire. It starts with the Earth (Clay in this case) to create the object. In the Air it dries. With the Fire is made the first burning, in the kiln, for 8 hours, to reach the temperature of 1000 Celsius degrees (1832 Farenheight degrees). Then it is painted with particular hand-made glazes, realized by the ceramist with metal oxides. And then, again in the Fire, for a second burning, that takes about 2 hours to reach the temperature of 1020 Celsius degrees (1868 Farenheight degrees). At this temperature, every single piece is extracted from the kiln and put in a box, with combustible material inside (such as newspapers, dry leaves or sawdust). After the immediate closure of the box, Air and Fire melt together and induce a strong reduction of oxygen. This step causes the reaction of the metal oxides, that randomly emerge. Otherwise, unpainted parts become black by smoking. Finally it is immersed in Water to stop the reduction process. The result, in tones and shades, will be random, such as Nature creates, and for this reason every piece is unique.

Local quality food products and everything you need for your home. Monica and Paolo are waiting to serve you with sympathy and kindness . FRESH BREAD EVERY DAY.
Part of the magic of renting a holiday house are certainly the home cooked meals. This makes the local grocery store to THE partner in crime. Paolo and Monica certainly went above and beyond, if they didn’t have what we were looking for, they’d get it for us, tips for the perfect ragu included. It wouldn’t be far fetched to call their micromercato the heart of Moltrasio. They welcomed us with open arms, were more helpful than you could wish for and made this charming little town feel a little bit like home. Grazie!

In Vinis Veritas is a casual, friendly wine bar, perfect for aperitifs and tasting some special wines with platters of local cheeses or cold cuts. We have wines from all the best Italian regions and a broad selection of local wines, as well as oil from the olives of Lake Como. The wine shop can ship you wines all over the world.
This was the highlight of my trip. I had 3 delicious glasses of red wine, accompanied with a selection of divine bread and cheeses. The host was very informative and was well informed. Really worth a trip and all for only €20.
