You will find knitted garments as well as ceramics, both patchwork quilts and jewellery there. The handicrafts are usually somehow related to Haapsalu and the makers are usually local craftsmen.Interesting facts:One part of the workshop is called Haapsalu Shawl Museum and reflects the history of this exquisite handicrafts masterpiece and introduces the techniques thereof.
The 'U' and 'S' in the name U-Stuudio are the initials of Urve Sikemae, the artist behind all of the work you will see in the glass workshop. She does not mass-produce items: each piece is unique and achieved using the tried and tested method of trial and error. Her sources of inspiration are simple shards of glass, which she fuses to create amazing bowls, stained-glass windows, lampshades, bottles and figurines. Also at U-Stuudio you will find painted porcelain and silk. Sikemae plans to take her experiments with glass, porcelain and silk even further in future. She is constantly trying out new techniques and technology, and as such her body of work continues to grow.
The Creative Centre is housed in a heritage building whose interior and exterior alike have preserved its centuries-old appearance. Once an apothecary, in future it is hoped that it will become a complex that will enable every visitor to Haapsalu to take a stroll around a creative world and try their hand in workshops. It is also hoped that it will host concerts and seminars and act as a gallery and sales centre. The second floor is set to house 12 rented studios. Events and exhibitions are held both in the courtyard and in the courtyard building, which transforms into a gallery in summer.
