A coastal town just 20 miles west of Lisbon, Cascais was once a small fishing village, but its idyllic scenery attracted the attention of artists, writers and expelled European nobility in the 20th century. Today, it still attracts high society, but all society comes in force to enjoy the gorgeous beaches and adventure options like sailing and surfing. The Conde de Castro Guimarães Museum, a former palace, is now open to the public and displays an impressive collection of art and artifacts.

Deja Lu is a bookshop that sells books that have already been read. One might call them second hand books, but it’s not the same. After all, these are books that have kept someone company. Now they'll be resold for a cause, as 100% of the sales will benefit the Portuguese Down Syndrome Association.
Any avid reader or library or bookstore lover will immediately feel at home in this gem of a book shop, as was I. The selection and organization in this oasis are wonderful. The fact that it’s a not for profit business run by volunteers for the pure benefit of a worthy cause warmed my heart.

Loved this elegant shop and gallery in Cascais - wish we had more space in our luggage! Bought lovely gifts to take home - unusual jams in a tube, beautifully scented and wrapped soaps, candles and hand creams, and a stunning cork cuff. Would have loved to add more of the food items, but we just ran out of space. Very friendly and helpful staff

A charming, clean and diverse complex of shops, exclusive food outlets and a garden centre, all overlooking the sea. We had a really lovely lunch in a very friendly atmosphere in the small bistro in the south east corner of the main building. It has a few tables inside and a few on the narrow balcony outside. A really great family atmosphere and very good savoury crepes. Well worth the walk.
