This was an absolutely amazing trip. Pasang arranged all the details for smooth transport from the airport to my hotel, where he and my guide updated me on additional info for the trek. Transportation and accommodations were all safe and comfortable. Great food at each of our stops. Pasang and Nema are both welcoming, with a great sense of humor, care for safety, and awareness of different levels of support that participants require. This trek is doable with moderate fitness level and some basic training. Pack light! I also brought a water bottle with a built in filter, which made it easy to fill up at the water foundations regularly along the path. Pasang went above and beyond and arranged a quick tour through some of the must see sites and stupas in Kathmandu before I had to get to the airport. I only had a short time to stay in Nepal this trip, but would definitely come back for a longer and more extreme adventure with Pasang and his crew. Cannot thank you enough for making me feel safe and comfortable on this trek!

I recently visited Nepal (Dec 2019) for a second time, this time with family including kids and parents. I want to share some of the experiences which might help those planning their trip to this beautiful country. I booked my travel again with Shakti travels due to a very good experience 3 years ago. Mr.Suresh Nakarmi was very attentive to our requirements and needs, and everything was planned ahead of time to our satisfaction. After a very long flight journey from US, we were greeted at the airport and comfortably rested for remainder of the evening. The hotel selection and food availability throughout the trip were fantastic. Especially, Pokhara and Kathmandu were the best parts of the trip. Overnight stay at Nagarkot was blissful. The rest of the trip was very productive with a lot of learning about the culture and tradition and enjoying the beautiful picturesque landscapes. We had an unexpected incident on the trip, and the prompt attention and flexibility demonstrated by Mr.Suresh Nakarmi and our friend Man Bahadur Keshava deserve special thanks to excel in time of need and urgency. Mr. Suresh would call my parents and check on every day while they were on a separate trip for few days. I would recommend Shakti travels for planning and touring any part of Nepal without any reservation. It would take away the hassles of planning, reservations, transport, lodging, dining, and local barriers and provide quality time to enjoy the vacation in this beautiful country with breathtaking terrains and stunning views. Thumbs up to Shakti travels and their team.

For the third time in three years, I took a 4WD tour of Upper Mustang with Adventure Thirdpole Treks. This tour was to attend the Tiji Festival in Lo Manthang. Based upon my previous experiences, I had recommended that my well traveled friend accompany me. I was confident that he would be satisfied with Adventure Thirdpole Treks services and most importantly - performance. My confidence and trust were once again rewarded as well as justified. As happens in tours to the isolated and under-developed region of Upper Mustang, challenges beyond anyone's control happen. Our guide, Raj, kept us informed at all times of issues. We were informed of possible solutions and were involved in making the final decision on how to adapt to the changing condition. Raj had everything under control so we never felt any anxiety. In the end the challenges only added to our adventure and in no way took away from our enjoyment of the tour. Raj took very good care of shepherding us through airports, checkpoints, and other confusing situations. Although this was my third tour, Adventure Thirdpole Treks was still able to make this a unique experience for me. We visited some new places and stayed at a couple different guesthouses.

Situated in the southern west of Kathmandu Valley, Chandragiri Hill with Holy Valeshwor Temple is considered to be the ideal destination for a day’s escape from the city. History of Chandragiri Hill According to the history the hill started in 300 BC when last Shruthakevali Bhadrabahu and Chandragupta Maurya visited the place in order to attain religious peace. The small hill derives its name of Chandra from the fact that Chandragupta was the first of the rishis (the holy man) who lived and performed penance there. Kalbappu was the early name of the hill and it dominates the history of the town of Shravanabelagola between 3rd century BC and 12th century AD. The Jain traditions link the Maurya Empire Emperor Chandragupta and his teacher Bhadrabahu with this place. 92 are located on the Small Hill out of the total number of 106 memorials found at Shravanabelagola, Of these, about 47 memorials of monks, 9 of nuns, and 5 of householders belong to the 7th and 8th century.

10. Day Tour to Historical Hill Town

Adventure Thirdpole Treks

Day trip to Nuwakot is the best for historical and cultural point of view.  About 80 km north of Kathmandu lays a remarkable historical hill town called Nuwakot bearing a special importance in the history of Nepal. It was once on a major trade route to Tibet, it has since become one of the most thriving commercial hubs of Nepal, and was by many regarded as the Western gateway to the Kathmandu valley. King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the founder of modern Nepal, planned and launched several unification campaigns from here some 260 years ago. A pagoda style building popularly known as seven-story Nuwakot Palace stands as a landmark of Nuwakot. With strategic hilltop viewpoint, it is rarely frequented yet pristine historical hill town offering the opportunity for learning history and culture.

This is an interesting place to visit. The architecture is very interesting, and they were doing a lot of restoration. Still, it is a very poor village. The people are friendly. The Newari food is great. I would not take this as either a half-day or full-day tour. Take a taxi up, have the driver wait for 30-45 minutes, while you look around (or longer, if you want to eat in a restaurant), then get on to other things. The tours are over-priced and drag on too long.
