What happens when your favourite grotto is fully booked?Together with 3 colleagues we planned a dinner around Lugano, but the restaurant we decided for was already fully booked.Gladly, among us, somebody heard good things about an interesting grotto located in Capolago. What a pleasant surprise! The restaurant is a typical old Grotto, with renovated interiors and a cozy veranda lying under old beautiful trees. The owner is an experienced cook (having worked at Grotto della Salute in Massagno) and an attentive host.Hangin by the entrance is the menu on a chalk board with prices, but the chef will tell you anything about the food, together with specialities of the day.Our group ordered a starter (if you order the main course they will suggest you a half portion): somebody picked up freshly made pastas while others delicious meat tortellis followed by guinea fowl, grilled tuna (a big chunk of it) and liver. The dessertsA fascinating setting

Really didn't expect to find a fantastic restaurant in such a neighborhood; it would have belonged in a great city. The waiter was really pleasant and the food was absolutely fantastic. The price was far below any similar restaurant and we are planning to return soon.

Located in the historical street of the Wineries of Mendrisio, the âOsteria Lanternaâ is the perfect place to enjoy the traditional good dishes, accompanied by a wide selection of Ticino and Italian wines. The tipical inn, made from ancient cellars, has t
This is a delicious and friendly restaurant. The neighborhood is adorable with colorful and cute architecture. The restaurant is domed in brick with the owner/manager dressed in smart attire and the waiters in white and black. I found the people working here friendly and professional. The food is excellent. I ate simply for lunch only having a plate of tomatoes with a lovely vinegar/mustard dressing and tagliolini ai funghi porcini. Both were excellent. The porcini were so fresh and the tagliolini were homemade. The house merlot from Ticino was simply perfect.

It was the second time that we could afford this fancy restaurant at the outskirts of Varese. One of the reasons was definitely also the fact that they offer gluten-free food/pasta but the main reason is the high quality of the food, the service, how the table is decorated, etc. Only when being seated inside, you see that they would need to improve a bit the interior (for ex., wall painting). The food is definitely excellent, the service perfect. What should we say more: if you know a bit how to distinguish ordinary (good) food from extraordinary (good) food, then you should try this restaurant. It is worth the money (though you have to leave some amount of it ...).

Located on the shores of Lake Lugano, at the foot of Mount San Giorgio, Grotto Pojana is the ideal place to enjoy true ticinese cuisine. Run by Antonella and Renato Bordogna, it offers a selection of traditional dishes that take you back to forgotten tast
Somewhat out of the way, however worth the effort. Recent lunch was excellent. Bruschetta with tomato and basil and stuffed zucchini flowers were spectacular. Risotto ai funghi was classic and one of the best I have had. Try the Turriga red wine from Sardinia-also excellent. The restaurant overlooks Lake Lugano and has a small number of outside tables. Inside the tables are typical family style. Excellent parking, which is rare in this area. Overall a wonderful experience.

Very good pastas, and wood oven pizza and seafood. The hosts are genuinely friendly, unpretentious and caring, and welcomed our little dog warmly!

This time back with a group of friends. As written in my previous review, food here is classic, simple, traditional cooking and presentation not pretentiousâ¦. Ordered a seafood starter âFantasia di pesceâ (11,50, last year was 9,50!) with salmon and tuna slices, shrimps soaked in cocktail sauce; spaghetti with clams (12,00) and a steamed seabass, pretty large one (15,00)... my dishes were all good tasted and according to our friends everything was good; almost nobody had leftovers. This time we asked purposely a table by the picture window... it was a beautiful sunny winter day so we quite enjoy our lunch there...Service still not their strong point; there were a couple of male waiters; they were cold but professional... one of our gourmand friends asked for more fries, answer was âdeep fryer is switched offâ... not a believable apology, but I see and understand that mealtime service is over (was after 14:30)A very good place to go if want to enjoy simple traditional seafood cooking with a beautiful view with a good service (within hours!)... better reserve in advance... just try to be there at the beginning of the mealtime so can enjoy a longer experience (if intended), not that they will kick you out but may let you know that you are not so welcome after meal hours...Update: Pizzas are not served anymore.

Restaurant Chalet San Giorgio is located in an ancient lake village of Brusino Arsizio at the foot of Monte San Giorgio (UNESCO World Heritage Site). Just steps from the border of Porto Ceresio, it enjoys an exclusive view over Morcote, the most beautiful
What a gem of a restaurant situated right next to lake lugano overlooking the picturesque Morcote. All we needed was the motorboat to arrive in (as several others did). Curtains gently blowing in the breeze made it feel cool and pleasant. Great choice of pizza, pasta, fish and meat. The spaghetti alle vongole was amazing. We will eat there 3 times in our weeks holiday.

Family dinner. The appetizers (mixed platter) were reasonably good, and the baby artichokes in olive oil, despite being 'bought in' and not home product, were good. The pizzas were an insult to pizzas. A seafood pizza was layered with stale bread (to absorb water from the seafood since it had obviously just been defrosted) and was simply disgusting (we told them so). Another pizza was just wrong (onion pizza for a small girl....)....three out of six pizzas were either inedible or simply inappropriate. The mother of the owner was apologetic, the owner simply could not care. Interesting dynamic. Sure, view of the lake is great. Maybe just run a coffee bar instead of a restaurant? That you need to cross the road in the dark for the restroom, sidestepping locals car-racing at 100 km an hour through the middle of the restaurant, is a very Italian delight that might be hard to appreciate for your average non-auto mad Northern European......maybe it'll take the first diner to be killed to have a toilet on the same side of the road as the restaurant. To top it off, countryside plonk (a.k.a. red wine) priced like decent wine......no, really not. Even if you are desperate.
