Things to do in Picton
Outer Reef Fresh Fish and Takeaways is under new management from September 2018. Gavin and his staff are committed to providing the best quality fresh fish products and takeaways they can. Open 7 days a week from 9am till 7pm there are also lots of other
When we saw the fresh fish in the window display, that is what we expected. We ordered the butterfish, but unfortunately, we did not see where he got the fish from. End result and long story cut short. The fish was less than half the size displayed in the window and the batter was very thick and crunchy, not too mention overcooked. The chips were saturated in oil as the fish. I will not go back there again for fish and chips. However, the beautiful fresh prawn/shrimps that they sell are the best I have ever tried in NZ. So bigs up in that department. Thanks anirt111 for taking the time to post your review. We are sorry you had a bad experience at our takeaway shop and hope you give us the chance to make it right with you. Please call in or phone and make yourself known to the owner and you will be reimbursed the cost of your food that was not up to standard. The fish in the cabinet is the fresh fish which is sold just as that 'fresh fish [uncooked] for people to take home an cook as they wish. When ordering fish to be cooked it is kept in the chiller in the cooking part of the shop so it isn't the same as what is on display although it would be pretty close to it. However many of our customers prefer to buy from the front cabinet and have it cooked which we are happy to do. This is sold by the weight of it rather than a standard piece price.I hope you give us a chance to show you what many of our satisfied customers are happy with. We are really glad you liked the NZ Prawns. They really are tasty.
New Owners New seafood menu coming, local produce, craft beers, great wine selection, coffee, friendly relaxed atmosphere. Updated website soon.

We've been looking for a "regular" fish and chip shop in Picton and have decided this is the best of them. The pries look a bit steep, but the pieces of hoki (fish) for $5.50 are enormous and a scoop of chips is too much for the 2 of us plus 5 year old son.I placed a very large order for an end-of-year lunch for my Year 3-4 class and some parents and they gave me a sizeable discount and the food was enjoyed by all. This was much appreciated - thank you!

Can't attest to the cooked food (other than the chips), but the oysters were fantastic. They had just gotten them in. The serve them out of the shell on just a bed of ice. Oysters, chips, and beer - what else to you need.Thank you for your positive feedback. Please come again, especially for oysters!

Wonderful venue however the decor and fit-out is a bit spartan. However the food is excellent and the staff friendly and obliging. Wine list OK without being great.

The Jolly Roger Bar & Restaurant is a very popular spot set right on the stunning Waikawa Marina. In the colder months you can still enjoy the beautiful view while sitting in our large heated canopy area. The summer months are an extremely busy time here
My husband and I just ate here for our anniversary we ordered garlic bread that arrived with the garlic butter on the side with raw garlic, a few minutes later we had our mains delivered which only took about 10 mins in total for the whole meal to come out I had the pasta special which was disgusting tasted like water with dry chicken and obviously microwaved from frozen hence getting the food so quickly the nachos were ok but I have left with an empty stomach yes we didnât pay for the pasta but not even an apology very disappointing.

Cafe Cortado is located on the Picton waterfront with beautiful views over Queen Charlotte Sound and Picton marina. We have spacious outdoor and indoor dining areas. Our a-la-carte menus include fresh nz seafood including our delicious creamy seafood chow
So many close on a Sunday afternoon but not this little gem.We sat outside in the sun munching of delicious chicken burgers and one of the tapas that they made into a main meal for me at a reasonable price.I had the fish curry and it was to die for so pick that as a tapa or ask nicely like me as not sure why you wouldnât make it a main.Price wise itâs a little up there but it was all very good and the service above and beyond.Even the coffee was good and the cranberry juice a good size.Strongly recommend!

Enjoyed a wonderful meal with our family. The team were extremely capable, food was simply delightful. Quality of ingredients was second to none and the preparation was fabulous. I love a good steak, unfortunately many restaurants simply don't deliver, they either cannot cook it as ordered or the produce quality is lacking. As a result I often avoid ordering it. On this occasion the steak was truly amazing. The seafood was fresh and flavoursome. My only recommendation would be to turn the TV off as it distracts from the dining experience. Otherwise I wholeheartedly recommend. Hi Monikakoia,Thank you very much for sharing your experience at Escape to Picton, we are glad you enjoyed your meal and we will take your advise.Hope to see you again :)Cheers,Lucia

We are a great little Bar and restaurant located in the heart of Picton, at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Like us if you enjoyed your stay
We were excited to eat here again and weren't disappointed. It had been some time since we had been up that way. The oxley is in a great position to look out to the sea and the decor was warm and inviting. The staff were super efficient and our meals arrived quite swiftly. We both had the pork belly with apple sauce mash and slaw. It was delicious! Can I say though the pork belly didn't have a crispy skin which we were surprised at and disappointed.Hubby then had a super delicious rhubarb and apple pie and I had a red berry and citrus tart.. we loved them!Cant wait for our next trip up.. we will be back
